As part of the UCLA Health Sciences Development (HSD) unit, the Hospital Initiatives team is focused on securing gifts and other resources in support of hospital programs within the UCLA Health System. When you join HSD as our Director of Development, your work will make a significant impact in moving forward programs that focus on care for vulnerable individuals seeking medical treatment, opportunities that require rapid implementation as well as initiatives that generate clinical innovation and novel technology advancement, treatments and patient care delivery.
As the Director of Development, you will design, implement and manage a robust major gifts program to attract private support for areas within the Hospital Initiatives team to include, but not limited to, Emergency Medicine and the Center for Pre-Hospital Care; the Gluck Stroke Rescue Program and the Mobile Stroke Unit (MSU); the President's Clinical Innovation Fund, Biodesign Program and Clinical Innovation Competition; the Integrative Medicine Collaborative; and the Center for East-West Medicine. In collaboration with the Senior Executive Director, you will be responsible for establishing goals and objectives for assigned areas, developing annual operating plans and evaluating progress to goals. You will coordinate strategies for fundraising, stewardship, cultivation and communications and will personally cultivate, solicit and steward major gift donors and manage a portfolio of major gift prospects in assigned areas. 1.A minimum of three to five years of progressively responsible fundraising experience with an emphasis on health sciences, grateful patient and/or major gift fundraising and/or prior professional experience in a related field such as sales, marketing or business development working with solicitations of a similar scope, nature and complexity. Required 2.Experience working in a highly matrixed organization with a successful track record of building a culture of philanthropy and strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders Required 3.Proven track record in development or comparable program planning and management with a strong understanding of major gift fundraising preferably in an academic medical school setting. Required 4.Skill in developing and implementing successful strategies for identification, cultivation and solicitation of individuals, corporations and foundations. Required 5.Outstanding organizational skills and proficiency in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner and on deadline. Required 6.Exceptional interpersonal skills to interact effectively with donors, volunteers, academic leaders, faculty, staff. Required 7.Excellent oral and written communication skills. Required 8.Experience participating in strategic planning. Required 9.Self-starter who works independently while, at the same time, works well collectively and collaboratively with colleagues to achieve common goals. Required 10.Some travel and the ability to work evenings and weekends as required. Required 11.Prior experience in healthcare or higher education is preferred. Preferred 12.
