UCLA External Affairs (EA) division encompasses Advancement Services, Alumni Affairs, Development, and Government & Community Relations. Within EA is a common goal to connect UCLA donors, faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends through strategies and programs designed to build long-term relationships and support for the university. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, External Affairs, and the Senior Executive Director, Employee and Organizational Engagement (EOE), the Director of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) will serve as a strategic advisor to EA leadership. This individual will be a driver in our core work of fundraising and advocacy. The Director will provide guidance on all matters, programs and initiatives related to the development and implementation of short- and long-term strategies to bring about, nurture and sustain equity in all aspects of EA's work. This individual will work collaboratively with UCLA's Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and campus Equity Advisors to create the appropriate framework for EA's EDI programmatic efforts and initiatives, aligning with campus-wide efforts. The Director will serve as an EDI expert and organizational thought-leader for EA in the creation and execution of action plans and integrated solutions that will drive inclusive behaviors and business practices at all levels of EA. This individual will be responsible for developing, executing and managing employee EDI programs, including implementing best practices and assessment methods to monitor performance and inform decisions on how to achieve equity objectives.
The Director will work collaboratively with the Training unit to deliver EDI training programs, including, but not limited to, professional development, leadership development, cultural sensitivity, and implicit bias, as well as staff engagement events that educate and raise awareness. This individual will work with the Talent Acquisition unit to recruit diverse talent, with emphasis on growth opportunities for current staff. The Director will collaborate with HR to imbed EDI into all talent systems across the employee life cycle. In addition, the Director will lead EA's EDI Council, and represent EA and UCLA at various university and external events, conferences and community engagements.
1.7+ years of experience in HR, employee relations, compliance and equal opportunity combined with subject matter expertise within the areas of equity, diversity and inclusion. Required 2.7+ years of experience in creating training and educational programs within diversity and inclusion initiatives. Required 3.Exceptional business acumen in order to achieve organizational change and attainment of goals with a record of success in leading or influencing transformation of organizational processes across all levels within a diverse and complex organization. Required 4.Research or industry expertise in the assessment and reporting of strategic goals focused on equity, diversity and inclusion. Required 5.Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively build partnerships and influence stakeholders and decision-making at all levels of a complex organization. Required 6.Strong training, facilitation and presentation skills for audiences of varying sizes and composition. Required 7.Demonstrated skill in developing and writing clear, concise and logical action plans, training materials, reports, correspondence and other program materials using various media. Required 8.Equally comfortable in quantitative and qualitative environments; familiarity with data and evidence based practices. Required 9.Ability to maintain an impeccable sense of confidentiality and discretion. Required 10.Strong program and project management skills and success working cross-functionally to develop and implement programs and projects; experience leading transformational projects including process improvement and change management. Required 11.Strategic and analytical leader with an aptitude for critical thinking and a strong ability to provide insight, analysis and sound rationale for recommendations. Required 12.Ability to develop and maintain EDI budget and oversee programmatic expenditures. Required 13.Detail oriented and highly self-driven with ability to work independently and take initiative to enhance EDI efforts. Required 14.Collaborative team player open to addressing the myriad of EDI needs and scope of work with consultative skills to provide guidance and coaching on matters related to EDI.
