Reporting to the Principal Investigator and the Program Manager of the Andrew W. Mellon Opportunity for Diversity in Conservation at UCLA, and the Management Services Officer of the Cotsen Institute of Archaeology, the successful candidate will work as an associate manager and instructor for a program supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. This program is designed to provide access to and mentoring for underrepresented students and post-baccalaureates in the field of conservation of cultural heritage. The program is the second phase of a Mellon-supported pilot begun in 2017, and has included developing outreach materials, performing outreach at area colleges and universities, convening an advisory board, generating and evaluating applications for a funded summer workshop, and generating and evaluating applications for funded practica (pre-program internships). Teaching in the workshop, and arranging internships and mentoring participants toward graduate study, are also part of the program, as is disseminating news of the outcomes.
Responsibilities include workshop preparation and participation, arranging your own and others' travel for outreach in schools and organizations within underrepresented communities; assisting with program development, instructor selection and invitations and arrangements, travel, purchasing, reimbursements and other arrangements for annual workshops designed to introduce 15-18 students to conservation; workshop instruction in your area of specialization; assisting with placements, coordination, travel and disbursements for six or more 10 week pre- program internships for workshop participants annually; maintaining social media pertaining to the program; and assisting the PI with grant data, reporting, conference and article preparation.
