Hours per Week: 15 hrs/wk Position Overview:
Provide in-person and/or online academic tutoring to students. Maintain an effective and positive learning environment.
Department Specific Essential Job Functions:
Tutor will provide one-on-one assistance to students learning economics and/or statistics assignments. The tutor will be used to help students with Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Macroeconomics, and Principles of Business Statistics. Tutors will not necessarily need to tutor all three subjects as the chair of the department will assign specific topics to the tutors. Hours will be agreed upon by the tutor and the chair of the department. The department will expect the tutor to be available 20 hours a week M-F between 9 am and 5 pm. Tutoring will take place in the lobby of Thatcher Hall. Tutor will maintain schedule for appointments and provide session information as needed to the chair of the Economics Department.
Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must be enrolled at least half time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half time enrollment for Fall/Spring is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. International students shall be enrolled full time to be eligible to work as a student worker. Full time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.
Summer Semester: All student employees must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to be eligible to work a regular student position. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in Fall classes in order to work on campus, but they (and the department) will be required to pay FICA taxes.
If the number of hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum hours required to work, the student must obtain a letter from his/her academic advisor, stating the number of hours needed to graduate, to be submitted to Human Resources. This obtains to both regular and Federal Work Study positions. Call the Human Resources Department for further information.
- Economics majors given preference
- Prior economics or statistics tutoring experience preferred
- Must have completed Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Macroeconomics, and preferably Principles of Business Statistics with an A
- A record of economics competency
- A cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher
- Must handle confidential information in a professional and ethical
- Have the ability to work responsibly and ethically with limited direct
- Have good communication and English skills
- Have the ability to work with diverse types of individuals
