Position Summary: Under the direction of a Radiologist, the Diagnostic Radiographer performs radiographic procedures at a technical level requiring no constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.

 

Education: Graduate of a recognized, approved AMA Council of Education program in radiologic technology; associate's degree preferred.

 

Experience: Must be capable of performing all routine diagnostic procedures including, but not limited to, routine, fluoroscopic, OR, trauma, portable radiographs or fluoroscopy, mammograms, and limited special procedures such as myelograms, venograms, arthrograms, and ERCPs.

 

Licensure/Certification: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and licensed by State of Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Extensive mobility required with fair amount of lifting and positioning of patients and equipment. Ability to lift more than 50 pounds frequently; perform difficult manipulative skills, arm-hand steadiness, and hand-eye coordination skills. Walk and stand for prolonged periods; see objects closely; hear normal sounds with some background noises. Patient care setting. Subject to electrical and radiation hazards. May be frequently exposed to blood, body fluids, and tissue. May be exposed to some electromagnetic radiation as in CRTs (VDTs). Must be able to concentrate on moderate detail with constant interruption. Must be able to understand and relate to specific ideas generally, several at a time, and remember multiple tasks given to self over long periods of time. Must have excellent verbal and written skills to facilitate communication with medical and technical personnel.
