The Data Engineering Manager within the Marketing Analytics Center of Excellence (CoE) is responsible for overseeing the data and tools to support marketing's analytics and data science needs.  This person will be responsible for the continued development and optimization of the company's Data Lake/Customer Data Platform (CDP) in a cloud environment, in conjunction with IT resources.  This person will be responsible for ensuring that the data in the marketing data platform supports the analysis, reporting, and data science needs of the marketing organization.  He/she will own the marketing data architecture and develop the platform roadmap based on the needs of marketing stakeholders.  This position serves as Marketing's primary point of contact with IT on these systems. He/She will also lead development of data visualizations and dashboards to support marketing decision making.  The Marketing Data Manager also manages others. 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Designs and builds the data strategies and roadmaps necessary to serve marketing analytics and data science needs
  • Oversees data collection workflows for all first party data into the data lake/marketing data platform
  • Develops and manages the data model in the data lake/marketing data platform to meet the analysis needs of the business
  • Designs and develops marketing data repositories and Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes in support of the analytics, reporting and statistical modeling needs of the business
  • Develops a data governance model, data policies, and standards, and maintains best practices for acquisition, storage, and analysis of marketing data
  • Manages data projects involving marketing stakeholders, software vendors, IT, and data owners to specify and execute new data feeds into the Customer Data Platform and/or Data Lake from internal repositories and marketing applications (web analytics, data warehouse, etc.)
  • Manages others, including data engineers.
  • Develops and maintains marketing performance reporting tools and develops new dashboards as required by stakeholders

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong coding skills in SQL, Spark, R and Python
  • Deep experience building and managing data pipelines in the Hadoop and Spark ecosystem, including experience with Hive, Sqoop, and Oozie
  • Deep experience with cloud computing in the Azure environment with Databricks and Data Factory, or similar technologies.  Experience building and managing data pipelines and repositories in cloud environments such as Microsoft Azure
  • Strong knowledge of data modeling principles and best practices in building analytics repositories in SQL and NoSQL environments
  • Understanding of Master Data Management practices and experience building 360 customer views
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex data quality issues
  • Ability to translate marketing stakeholder requirements into technical specifications
  • Experience building dashboards leveraging tools such as Power BI and Tableau
  • Ability to translate marketing stakeholder requirements into technical specifications
  • Ability to manage projects and to manage others
