Job Summary

The Customer Communications Supervisor manages the development and execution of communications campaigns and programs that support the marketing plan. He/she researches, writes, and edits customer-facing materials and works with vendors to develop creative content (e.g. artwork, layout, etc.) and establish program timelines. This position guides the production and distribution of communications materials (e.g. print, digital, and social components) to ensure quality control and timely receipt by the target audience.

Working with and managing relationships with communications vendors is a major focus of this position. The Customer Communications Supervisor selects vendors and works with them on concept development, copy, artwork, format and other program components. He/she selects the final concepts and creative approach to ensure cost, brand alignment, channel and other criteria will be met; and obtains final content approval from stakeholders and other groups. The Customer Communications Supervisor also develops communications plans and manages communications projects. Duties include determining objectives and creative recommendations, developing a creative development plan with timelines and milestones, and gaining plan support and approval. This individual also collaborates with others to ensure consistency of message, and prepares reports on the program or campaign's progress, results and successes.

Other Duties

  • Maintain relationships with stakeholders and identify their needs to gain consensus and ensure goals and objectives are met.
  • Communicate the customers' perspective to stakeholders.
  • Manage vendor performance and resolve issues to mitigate project risks.
  • Obtain estimates and determine scope of work to generate work orders and purchase orders for plan approval.
  • Review, monitor and manage plan budgets and financial reports.

Preferred Competencies

  • Designs, develops and produces communications by evaluating needs, designing strategies for target audiences, and crafting effective messages.
  • Manages budgets and understands accounting processes, determines needed resources and allocates.
  • Manages communication programs: selects appropriate media channels (e.g., web, video, print), develops and implements internal and external programs, and monitors program effectiveness.
  • Manages projects and programs including allocating people and resources, organizing logistics and implementation, monitoring progress, adapts plans, and identifies and resolves rollout issues.
  • Manages and establishes working relationships with vendors (e.g., suppliers, consultants, contractors). 

Minimum Qualifiers

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or Marketing ~ Preferred
  • Master's degree ~ Preferred
  • Experience creating or managing digital communications ~ Preferred
  • Experience managing social media ~ Preferred
