Software Engineering Manager – Catalog Services
Zulily's Merchant and Vendor Platform team innovates to acquire, curate, and promote products so that Mom can discover great finds she trusts at unbeatable prices. We're the organization that builds the tools and services that enable our merchants and partners to create the sales that you see shown daily on our website. We own the catalog for Zulily, including pricing, and inventory management.
For the Software Engineering Manager, Catalog Services, you own the catalog aggregation services, catalog search, and publishing to our website. Over $2B in sales are generated off this catalog. Our big mission this year is to greatly expand the scope of our catalog as we dive deep into automating the ingestion of products across the spectrum of vendors. In partnership with the Catalog Services product manager, you will build an exciting multi-year plan that addresses the needs of both internal interests and external vendors/sellers, while optimizing for our most important customer, Mom. You will then put your plan into action, delivering capability with incremental value throughout every year.
The ideal candidate has successfully built highly available distributed systems at scale. You have solid experience with making data-driven decisions, cross-organization collaboration, and a strong passion for operational excellence. You have successfully delivered multiple projects using agile processes, iterating and learning as you go. Extra points if you have worked with Kubernetes in the cloud. You have strong communication and leadership skills that you use to lead a group of strong customer-obsessed engineers who love using technology to solve very hard problems, but never for tech's sake. You love to collaborate with others. You get excited with problems that are especially difficult with a lot of ambiguity. - 7+ years of experience in large-scale system architecture.
- 3+ years of experience leading high-performing teams
- Prior hands-on experience with building services in C/C++, C#, or Java.
- Databases (prefer SQL and NoSQL)
- Experience with Cloud
- Success in owning and evolving Agile development processes
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
- Experience with Kubernetes and/or Docker
- Background building catalog systems, including search or any complex high-availability system, at scale
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to manage ambiguity, complex problem spaces, and multiple priorities.
- Strong ownership and willingness to do what's right
