Description
The assistant controller plays a key role in the organization's accounting and finance department by ensuring accurate reporting, maintaining internal controls, and supporting the controller with audits, month-end close, and regulatory compliance. This position will act as a bridge between day-to-day accounting operations and high-level financial strategy, often overseeing staff accountants and coordinating cross-departmental accounting processes. The role will prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP, managing reconciliations, assisting with budgeting and forecasting, and implementing accounting controls to safeguard company assets. The role will also help prepare documentation for internal and external audits, identify areas for process improvement, and ensure the company meets both internal reporting timelines and external compliance standards including separation of duties policies.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for the direction and administration of Company accounting functions. Serve as a liaison to the external auditors, corporate accounting and branch employees.
- Establish and maintain the Company's accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
- Oversee the preparation and evaluation of financial operating reports and presents findings and recommendations to management.
- Responsible for procedures to ensure that transactions are executed in accordance with general or specific authorization. Maintain accurate, complete and timely records of business transactions.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures.
- Preparation and monitoring of annual operating budget.
- Participate in formulating and successfully implementing goals and objectives.
- Access to assets within area of responsibility is permitted only in accordance with general or specific authorization.
- Hire, train and develop associates following company standards and policies. Conduct associate performance reviews regularly, establish individual goals and ensure completion of relevant training.
- Communicate to associates specific duties and requirements of their job including Core Values and Code of Business Ethics.
- Work closely with other departments or divisions on matters of mutual concern and responsibilities.
- Write and deliver presentations and prepare reports as necessary.
- Assist in other operational issues as assigned or directed by supervisor or as necessary.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or business-related fields with 5 to 7 years industry relevant experience in general accounting and financial analysis
- Experience with integrated ERP systems, Epicor P21 knowledge a plus Intermediate Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
- MBA or CPA certification preferred
