About the Role:

As the Director of Planning, Approvals, and Strategy, you will play an essential role in our enterprise strategy. Reporting directly to the President of Alcoa Australia & Vice President of Operations you will ensure collaborative planning and implementation of approvals, mine plans & alignment with Alcoa's values and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribution to Strategy: Directly contributing to Alcoa of Australia's strategy, sustainability, and operational success.

  • Regulatory Approvals: Leading alignment and execution on regulatory approvals with operational and capital development pipelines.

  • Strategic Direction: Providing approvals advice to business leaders and ensuring alignment with global objectives.

  • Mine Planning: Overseeing mine planning to ensure effective plans and meticulous project execution.

  • Team Leadership: Inspiring and coaching a diverse team of regional mine planning and approvals managers and specialists.

  • Government and Community Engagement: Navigating complex expectations with innovative solutions, positioning Alcoa as the partner of choice in the industry.

What you can bring to the role:

  • Relevant Tertiary qualification.

  • Extensive experience in mine planning and managing major regulatory and licensing approvals processes.

  • Proven track record in delivering approvals and licensing outcomes

  • Significant experience in regulatory policy frameworks, natural resource management, and social policy.

  • Exceptional stakeholder influencing and management skills, internal and external to Alcoa

  • Extensive knowledge of local, state, and federal legislation, and experience in preparing environmental assessments for major projects.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills to inspire team members and business leaders alike towards a common goal.

  • From Q3 2025, the role will be based at our new head office location, based only a short walk away from Elizabeth Quay Train Station, on St George's Terrace.

About the Location

Alcoa Australia is currently located in Booragoon, WA, but will be relocating to the western end of St Georges Terrace in Perth CBD in Q3 2025. The Booragoon office is situated on Whadjuk Noongar land, 16 kilometres away from Perth's CBD. The office is situated next to Garden City and hosts employees from across several business units, including Commercial, Finance, Sustainability, Communications, Human Resources and the Global Refinery of the Future team.
