About the Role
Do you have a passion for operational excellence, leadership, and continuous improvement? We have an exciting opportunity at our Aluminium Smelter in the coastal town of Portland, Victoria, for an experienced professional to join our site leadership team as Ingot Mill Manager.
Portland offers a unique blend of country-style living and coastal charm, while our smelter stands as one of the world's largest, applying best-in-class technologies. It's a great time to join a site that plays a vital role in global aluminium production.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation and maintenance of the Ingot Casting Facility. As part of the location management team, you will lead a high-performing workforce, manage the facility's budget, and drive strategic initiatives aligned with Alcoa's goals.
You will foster a culture of safety, promote collaboration across processes, and champion continuous improvement based on a strong understanding of operational needs. Your leadership will be key in delivering technical and process enhancements that support long-term performance and sustainability.
You are accountable for and will undertake the following duties:
Establish production targets and quality standards in collaboration with technical teams and external stakeholders.
Represent the Ingot Mill in strategic planning, business engagement, and cross-functional collaboration to meet operational objectives.
Lead workforce development, performance planning, and succession strategies to build a capable and engaged team.
Develop and manage the annual operating and maintenance budget, ensuring financial performance and resource optimisation.
Foster a culture of safety by ensuring compliance with procedures, leading investigations, and implementing corrective actions.
Drive continuous improvement through technical and engineering initiatives aligned with the Alcoa Production System (APS).

What you can bring to the role
To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:
Tertiary qualifications in engineering or equivalent operations/industry experience
10+ years of experience in Alcoa or a similar manufacturing environment, primarily in line operations
A minimum of 10 years of management and leadership experience
Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills to coach and lead at all levels of the organisation
Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills
High-level understanding of team dynamics and organisational development
Practical knowledge of aluminium smelting processes
High computer literacy and strong presentation skills

About the Location
Our Portland Smelter is a joint venture between Alcoa of Australia (55%), CITIC (22.5%) and Marubeni Aluminium Australia (22.5%). Alcoa manages the day-to-day operations at the smelter and we produce approximately 19 per cent of Australia's total aluminium production in Portland.
