About the Role:

The primary role of the Spatial Data Analyst is to manage the spatial data generated by Alcoa's WA operations and other external inputs. They must be able to validate, process, update, and reconcile incoming and outgoing spatial data and ensure statutory compliance of operational processes spatial data management systems in place.

The role supports regional and location based stakeholders with maps generations, spatial data analysis, validation and reports developments.

Safety

  • Contribute to safe systems of work via the systematic review of processes directly and
    indirectly involved with.

  • Identify and provide data from systems to safety investigations and reviews.

Supporting GIS Users

  • Using the current GIS requests systems, interrogate and triage support requests
    appropriately.

  • Provide services related to these requests which can include things such as how-to,
    map generation, and technical issues.

  • Liaise with different work groups (the customer) to make sure Alcoa's GIS is catering to
    their needs.

  • Spatial data analysis, manipulation and visualisation.

  • Maps production.

Maintain & Manage Spatial Data & Systems:

  • Managing spatial data within Alcoa's Enterprise Geodatabases.

  • Liaise with data suppliers (both internal and external) to make sure that all relevant data
    is available to the broader business, and it is consistent with Alcoa's spatial data
    standards.

  • Assess validity of historical spatial data and whether it is still relevant to the business.

  • Create new spatial datasets as required.

  • Maintaining and creating documentation related to Alcoa's spatial data systems,
    including, but not limited to, training, metadata, and workflows. This also includes the
    creation of videos and other media content to assist users with training and
    familiarisation of Alcoa's GIS.

  • Collaboration with peers in Global and Regional Spatial Teams

Problem Solving & Business Improvement:

  • Translation of business requirements to technical information specification

  • Troubleshoot technical issues that arise within Alcoa's spatial data management systems.

  • Quantify problem impacts and use to drive business cases and prioritise problem solving activities.

  • Continuously looking for any potential improvement opportunities that may benefit the
    customer and/or the GIS team.

  • Continuously assessing spatial data workflows against the latest technology to make sure that they are the most appropriate.

What you can bring to the role:

  • A Bachelors degree in the Spatial Sciences,

  • Environmental Science, or similar is essential

  • Experience working with spatial data is essential.

  • High level of experience with the ESRI ArcGIS and related platforms.

  • Experience supporting customers/other users will be highly regarded.

  • Experience using Python in a spatial data context is desirable but not essential.

  • Experience with database management and using SQL are desirable but not essential.

About the Location

Founded in 2006, with operations starting in 2009, the Juruti mine has a potential bauxite reserve of 700 million metric tons. Its current operating capacity is 7.5 million tons per year (6.5 million dry metric tons) of high-quality bauxite.
