About the Role
Are you passionate about preserving the delicate balance of our natural world while leveraging cutting-edge spatial technology? Alcoa's Australian Operations is seeking a Spatial Data Analyst to join our Mining Studies team on a 12-month limited term contract, based in the WA Mining Hub in Pinjarra. This isn't just a role; it's an opportunity to be at the forefront of environmental stewardship, managing critical spatial data that underpins our understanding and protection of the diverse flora and fauna across our vast mining lease.
As a Spatial Data Analyst, you will be the guardian of our ecological insights, primarily managing the spatial data generated by our dedicated Mining studies team. Your keen eye for detail will ensure the validity, processing, updating, and reconciliation of incoming and outgoing spatial data. You'll be instrumental in guaranteeing the statutory compliance of our spatial data and systems, acting as the conduit that connects vital environmental information to a wide range of users.
This role reports to the Mining Studies Manager. It offers a family-friendly Monday to Friday roster, including a paid leisure day off every 4 weeks. The position requires occasional travel to our mining locations and provides the flexibility to work remotely 1-2 days per week, depending on individual needs.
Key responsibilities include:
Validate, process, update, and reconcile incoming and outgoing spatial data.
Ensure statutory compliance of spatial data and systems.
Support a wide range of users to access spatial data.
Provide spatial data analysis, manipulation, and visualisation support to the mining studies team.
Consult with internal and external data suppliers to ensure data availability and consistency with Alcoa's spatial data standards.
Maintain and create documentation related to Alcoa's spatial data systems, including training materials, metadata, and workflows

What you can bring to the role
A bachelor's degree in Spatial Sciences, Environmental Science, or a similar discipline, providing you with a strong foundation in understanding our natural world.
Demonstrated prior experience working with spatial data, proving your expertise in navigating complex geographical information.
High-level experience with Esri's ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Pro will be highly regarded, as these are the tools of our trade.
A knack for supporting customers/other users will be highly regarded, as you'll be empowering others to access vital environmental insights.
Experience using Python in a spatial data context is desirable, allowing you to automate and streamline data processes.
Experience with database management and/or SQL is desirable, strengthening your ability to manage our vast data repositories.

About the Location
Huntly is one of our two bauxite mines in Western Australia. Established in 1976 and located east of North Dandalup in WA, it is the world's second largest bauxite mine, supplying ore to Alcoa's Pinjarra alumina refinery. Bauxite ore from Alcoa's Huntly and Willowdale mines helps to produce almost half of Australia's alumina and approximately 19 per cent of Australia's aluminium.
