THE ROLE:

AMD is seeking an experienced Platform Architect to help shape the future of AI infrastructure and next-generation datacenter platforms. In this highly visible technical leadership role, you will drive the architecture of complex rack-scale systems that power hyperscale and cloud computing environments. Working within a collaborative team of platform architects and technical leaders, you will influence the direction of cutting-edge technologies spanning silicon, hardware, firmware, software, thermal, mechanical, power, and system-level design.

This role offers the opportunity to work on industry-leading AI and high-performance computing platforms that are transforming the future of cloud infrastructure. You will collaborate with engineers, architects, program leaders, and domain experts across AMD while helping define the next generation of solutions for hyperscale customers. If you thrive on solving complex system challenges, influencing technical direction, and working on technologies that push the boundaries of innovation, this is an opportunity to make a significant impact.

THE PERSON:

You are a technical leader who enjoys solving complex problems and driving architectural decisions across large, cross-functional organizations. You thrive in dynamic environments where requirements evolve, innovation is constant, and collaboration is critical to success. You have strong communication and relationship-building skills, enabling you to influence stakeholders, align teams around common goals, and drive consensus across diverse engineering disciplines.

You are proactive, adaptable, and comfortable navigating ambiguity while maintaining focus on long-term business objectives. You enjoy mentoring others, sharing knowledge, and helping teams deliver innovative solutions while fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Define and drive the architecture of next-generation AI, hyperscale, and datacenter platform solutions.
  • Partner with cross-functional engineering teams to develop scalable, high-performance platform architectures spanning hardware, firmware, software, thermal, power, and mechanical domains.
  • Establish architectural roadmaps, interface definitions, design guidelines, and technology strategies that align with business and customer objectives.
  • Lead technical reviews and drive architectural decisions across large, highly collaborative engineering programs.
  • Within the first 90 days, develop a deep understanding of AMD's platform architecture methodologies, product portfolio, development processes, and ongoing strategic programs.
  • Within the first 6 months, contribute architectural guidance on active projects and influence key technical decisions while building strong partnerships across engineering organizations.
  • Within the first year, become a trusted technical leader responsible for driving architecture initiatives, mentoring engineers, and helping shape future product and platform strategies.
  • Identify technical risks, evaluate trade-offs, and recommend solutions that optimize performance, scalability, reliability, cost, and customer value.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders across architecture, silicon engineering, product management, system design, and validation teams to ensure successful product execution.
  • Contribute to the evolution of AMD's AI and datacenter infrastructure roadmap through innovation, technical leadership, and system-level thinking.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Platform architecture experience within semiconductor, compute, networking, or infrastructure-focused organizations.
  • Experience developing products built around next-generation silicon technologies.
  • Knowledge of hyperscale datacenter environments and infrastructure deployed for cloud service providers.
  • Experience with AI infrastructure, rack-scale systems, server platforms, or high-performance computing solutions.
  • Strong understanding of hardware/software co-design and complex system integration.
  • Experience working across platform domains including compute architecture, I/O connectivity, storage, memory, power, thermal, security, and management technologies.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and technologies such as PCIe, Ethernet, NVMe, Redfish/IPMI, SMBus, I²C, and platform security frameworks.
  • Experience leading technical initiatives across large, cross-functional engineering organizations.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, technical documentation, and mentoring capabilities.
  • Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Master's degree desired.

LOCATION: Austin, TX • Santa Clara, CA • Seattle, WA
