THE ROLE
AMD is looking for a business-minded commercial attorney to lead three critical areas of work: direct procurement, strategic capacity reservation and supply assurance, and data center backstop transactions that support AMD's AI infrastructure growth. In this role, you will be the lead lawyer on agreements used to secure the components, materials, manufacturing services, capacity commitments, and data center resources that support AMD's products and platforms. You will partner closely with Procurement, Supply Chain, Operations, Data Center, Finance, and Technology teams to turn complex business arrangements into clear, practical, and executable contracts. This is a high-visibility role requiring strong judgment, commercial pragmatism, and the ability to balance risk with the speed of the business.
THE PERSON
You are a confident, practical deal lawyer with significant buy-side experience negotiating agreements for physical goods, components, manufacturing, capacity, and infrastructure. You bring strong business judgment, executive presence, and the ability to stay organized and effective under pressure. You can lead several high-stakes transactions at once, with particular strength in direct procurement and strategic supply arrangements, while also supporting the data center and AI infrastructure transactions that are increasingly important to AMD's growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Structure, draft, and serve as AMD's lead legal negotiator for transactions across three core areas:
Direct procurement transactions, including components, materials, assemblies, contract manufacturing, manufacturing services, and product purchase agreements.
Strategic capacity reservation and supply assurance transactions, including multi-year commitments, capacity reservations, prepayment arrangements, and single-source/sole-source supply structures.
Data center backstop and AI infrastructure transactions, including data center capacity, take-or-pay, capacity reservation, and related infrastructure arrangements.
- Negotiate major indirect procurement, technology, licensing, and other commercial agreements.
- Advise senior leaders on deal strategy, risk, and execution, and independently lead high-impact matters.
- Develop templates, playbooks, and practical contracting approaches that help the legal team support the business with speed, consistency, and sound risk management.
- Lead, mentor, and develop legal team members and manage outside counsel.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Significant commercial legal experience leading complex, high-value transactions independently.
- Hands-on direct buy-side procurement experience, including personally negotiating the purchase of components, materials, assemblies, manufacturing services, or other goods and services that support a product, not only IT, software, or general services.
- Strategic capacity reservation and supply assurance experience, including multi-year commitments, capacity reservations, prepayment arrangements, and single-source/sole-source supply structures.
- Data center backstop, cloud, compute capacity, or AI infrastructure agreement experience, including take-or-pay, capacity reservation, prepayment, or supply assurance arrangements, is a strong differentiator.
- Experience in semiconductors, hardware, cloud, data center, contract manufacturing, contract manufacturing, ODM, or foundry environments is a plus, along with strong leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS
- J.D. or LL.B. from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing with a state or provincial bar.
- MBA or equivalent business experience is a strong plus.
LOCATION
- Austin, Texas
