THE ROLE:

The AMD Game Engineering team partners closely with external game developers and publishers to deliver some of the best gaming experiences globally. We empower developers to fully harness the power of AMD's cutting-edge CPU, GPU, and APU hardware pushing the boundaries of gaming graphics and performance.

 

As the Gaming Technology Engineering Director, you will lead a core team of highly skilled industry specialists, collaborating with game development studios on the latest hardware and software technologies, especially FSR integration into the world's leading gaming titles. You will be instrumental in driving feature adoption, performance optimization, and stability improvements for future AAA game titles across AMD platforms.

 

THE PERSON:

The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineering leader with deep expertise in game engine development and graphics optimization, experienced in scaling teams across fast‑paced, matrixed, and global environments. They are passionate about game development and talent growth as well as driving engineering excellence and world‑class results. They are AI‑forward and pragmatic, effectively leveraging modern AI‑assisted tools to accelerate integration, debugging, and optimization while coaching teams on responsible use. They showcase strong communication skills while being a collaborative partner who is energized by complex technical challenges.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Define vision and strategy for your group's technical initiatives. Work closely with your teams, account managers, program managers, and game developers to develop and foster community mindshare
  • Work with AMD's architecture specialists to improve future products, both software and hardware.
  • Prioritize work efforts to ensure development and verification teams stay focused on the key deliverables supporting technology inflection points and product launches.
  • Recruit, retain, and coach individuals to scale up engineering teams.
  • Create an inclusive culture mentoring your teams to consistently deliver commitments and foster innovation that advances the state-of-the-art game rendering, compute, and multithreading technologies.
  • Drive continuous improvement in development processes, resource allocation, and execution efficiency within your teams, and collaborate with peers across AMD to scale processes to support a rapidly changing and growing business.
  • Own operational reporting: define, track, and report key operational metrics (e.g., delivery health, integration progress, performance/stability milestones, resourcing) and regular status updates to executive management.
  • Stay informed of AI, software and hardware trends and innovations, especially pertaining to development workflow acceleration, algorithms and architecture.
  • Establish and lead an AI-accelerated engineering workflow: demonstrate critical knowledge of key AI tools (e.g., Claude Code) to speed AMD feature integration and game title performance/stability optimization, and train the team to use these tools effectively and responsibly.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Track record of delivering complex software products through full hardware/software lifecycle.
  • Experience leading software optimization teams where performance and stability are paramount.
  • Experience with modern concurrent programming and threading APIs .
  • Strong graphics code optimization skills, in particular shader code optimizations.
  • Experience with software development processes and tools such as debuggers, source code control systems (GitHub) and profilers is a plus .
  • Hands-on experience using modern AI coding assistants and code-aware copilots (e.g., Claude Code) to accelerate development, debugging, integration, and optimization; ability to coach and scale best practices across a team.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.Sc., B.Eng.) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related fields.
  • Advanced degrees (M.Sc., M.Eng., Ph.D.) are a plus.

LOCATIONS: 

This role is open to remote out of the US and Canada.
