THE ROLE:
The Virtual Bring‑Up (VBU) team is seeking a Fast Platform Simulation Architect to provide technical leadership and strategic direction for AMD's software functional simulation platforms. This role is a senior, highly visible position responsible for shaping the evolution of high‑performance simulation systems used for firmware, driver, and application development across AMD products.
The ideal candidate is a recognized expert in software functional simulation, with deep hands‑on experience building scalable, high‑performance platforms and the leadership skills to align cross‑functional teams, influence technical direction, and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
THE PERSON:
You will possess very strong problem-solving skills and bring broad experience in methodology, with a strong, self-motivated work ethic.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive strategic direction for software functional simulation platforms while remaining hands‑on and capable of contributing directly to technical solutions.
- Own and maintain a long‑term technology roadmap for fast platform simulation, balancing model fidelity, performance, scalability, and usability.
- Own the technology strategy and execution plan for scaling high‑speed functional simulation to support very large rack‑level and cluster‑level systems.
- Represent VBU simulation solutions in technical customer engagements, architecture reviews, and planning discussions, acting as a trusted technical authority.
- Ensure interoperability across simulation, hardware emulation, and hybrid configurations, enabling seamless workflows across multiple environments.
- Lead cross‑functional alignment across modeling, firmware, driver, validation, and architecture teams to deliver scalable, high‑performance simulation systems.
- Consult with management, customers, and technical leads to define project scope, priorities, schedules, and success criteria.
- Identify opportunities to leverage industry tools, internal frameworks, and emerging technologies to advance simulation capability and efficiency.
- Mentor and influence senior engineers, helping raise the technical bar and promote best practices across the organization.
Required Skills & Experience
- Extensive experience designing and developing high‑performance software functional simulation systems used for pre‑silicon or early software enablement.
- Deep understanding of software–hardware interaction, including:
- SoC and system architecture
- Firmware, OS, driver, and application software stacks
- Modeling tradeoffs between accuracy, abstraction, and performance
- Strong familiarity with EDA and proprietary simulation tools, with an understanding of the relative strengths, limitations, and appropriate use cases for each.
- Broad industry experience across multiple companies, products, or domains (not limited to a single employer or environment).
- Solid understanding of hardware design verification (DV) tools and flows, with the ability to identify synergies between DV and functional simulation.
- Strong knowledge of hardware emulation and simulation technologies, including experience integrating with tools such as hardware emulators, VCS, and other simulators to enable hybrid workflows.
- Proven ability to work across organizational boundaries and influence without authority.
- Excellent communication skills, with passion and interpersonal effectiveness needed to drive collaboration with customers, partners, and internal teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience defining or leading architecture‑level initiatives for simulation platforms or modeling infrastructure.
- Prior responsibility for customer‑facing technical leadership or multi‑team technical alignment.
- Background in large‑scale or performance‑critical systems, including parallel execution, distributed simulation, and hybrid modeling.
- Experience mentoring senior engineers or serving as a technical lead for complex, cross‑disciplinary efforts.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in computer engineering/Electrical Engineering
This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
