WHAT YOU DO AT AMD CHANGES EVERYTHING

At AMD, our mission is to build great products that accelerate next-generation computing experiences—from AI and data centers, to PCs, gaming and embedded systems. Grounded in a culture of innovation and collaboration, we believe real progress comes from bold ideas, human ingenuity and a shared passion to create something extraordinary. When you join AMD, you'll discover the real differentiator is our culture. We push the limits of innovation to solve the world's most important challenges—striving for execution excellence, while being direct, humble, collaborative, and inclusive of diverse perspectives. Join us as we shape the future of AI and beyond.  Together, we advance your career.

We are seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to join AMD's Customer eXperience Engineering (CXE) team within the Embedded Computing Group. This team plays a strategic role in shaping AMD's next generation of Embedded and AI technologies by working closely with customers and internal product teams.

As part of CXE, you will act as “Customer Zero”, developing industrial proof‑of‑concept system solutions on upcoming Embedded platforms. You will contribute a customer‑focused perspective that helps inform the design of future silicon, software, and developer tools.

You will join an embedded software team delivering platforms that enable a wide range of embedded systems, including Automotive, Robotics, Industrial, and AI‑focused solutions. The role combines hands‑on embedded software development, system‑level thinking, and collaboration across hardware, software, and AI teams.

This position offers exposure to the full embedded software and firmware lifecycle, working on real‑time, safety‑aware, and resource‑constrained systems that span silicon, firmware, operating systems, middleware, and AI/runtime stacks.

You will work alongside a diverse and experienced engineering team, with strong opportunities for learning, mentoring, and career development aligned to your experience level.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on experience, responsibilities may include some or all of the following:

  • Design, develop, and deliver embedded software solutions on embedded Linux and/or RTOS platforms
  • Implement and integrate AI‑enabled applications on embedded systems
  • Contribute to system‑level design decisions, balancing latency, power, memory, performance, and reliability
  • Integrate and optimize AI/ML workloads such as inference pipelines, sensor fusion, and control loops
  • Support debugging, performance analysis, and root cause investigations across the hardware/software stack
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams spanning silicon, firmware, tools, OS, middleware, and AI
  • Share technical knowledge within the team and contribute to engineering best practices

Technical Skills & Experience

We welcome candidates across experience levels. Relevant skills may include:

  • Embedded software development using C/C++, Python, or similar languages
  • Experience working in a Linux-based development environment
  • Familiarity with embedded Linux, modern software engineering practices, and toolchains
  • Understanding of embedded processors such as ARM and/or Embedded x86
  • Exposure to system‑level software development, from architecture and design through implementation and validation
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Experience with AI‑assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) is beneficial but not required.

Nice to Have / Optional Experience

  • Multithreaded, real‑time, or safety‑critical software architectures
  • RTOS development (e.g., Zephyr, FreeRTOS) or real‑time Linux
  • Linux kernel or low‑level system development (e.g., drivers, Yocto, BitBake)
  • AI/ML optimization on embedded or resource‑constrained platforms
  • Mentoring or technical leadership experience

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience)
