THE ROLE

 

AMD is seeking an exceptionally accomplished technical leader for the role of Fellow, Memory Firmware Development. This individual will operate at the highest technical level, providing strategic direction, hands-on architectural guidance, and world-class debug expertise to our core memory firmware and silicon teams. This is a critical, high-impact role aimed at solving the toughest problems and ensuring market leadership in for AMD's cutting-edge EPYC™ server CPUs. The successful candidate will leverage deep, specialized domain expertise to solve the most complex, systemic challenges at the intersection of silicon, firmware, and hardware.

 

 

THE PERSON

The ideal candidate possesses a solid track record of providing technical vision and leadership for the entire memory firmware lifecycle, from pre-silicon architecture definition through high-volume production and post-launch customer support. This role involves significant technical influence across multiple internal teams (Architecture, Silicon Design, Validation, Platform Engineering) and external partners (JEDEC, DRAM vendors, ODM/OEMs).

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • DDR Firmware Development: Inject specialized knowledge into the development of DDR5 and DDR6 firmware, focusing on optimizing training algorithms, server-class DDR features, performance and stability
  • Deep Technical Expertise: Serve as the final technical escalation point for the most challenging memory-related firmware and silicon initialization issues, including complex post-silicon debug that spans hardware, firmware, and low-level software.
  • Debug Acceleration: Server as the go-to technical expert for the most complex, systemic server memory failures from development through issues reported from field deployments, driving solid root cause analysis and mitigation strategies
  • Process and Methodology: Drive significant, long-term improvements in firmware development, debug, and validation methodologies, introducing innovative tools and frameworks to accelerate time-to-market and maximize overall quality.
  • Technical Mentorship: Mentor and coach Principal/Senior Engineers, cultivating a culture of technical excellence, rigorous analysis, and continuous improvement within the memory and server firmware teams.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • 25+ years of firmware engineering experience, focus on memory preferred
  • Expert-level knowledge of server memory subsystems across memory controller, PHY and Firmware
  • Demonstrated Debug mastery in complex silicon / firmware debug
  • Proficiency in Low-Level Code: Expert-level skills in programming languages for embedded environments
  • In Depth knowledge of DDR, HBM and I2C or I3C protocols
  • Mastery in software development best practices
  • Experience with JTAG debugging, logic analyzers a plus

 

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a similar technical field.
