LEAD FIRMWARE ENGINEER 

 

THE ROLE: 

We are looking for an MTS (Member of Technical Staff) Engineer with an obsession for firmware. As part of the role, this engineer will work closely with other firmware engineers, developers and architects across various IPs in designing and implementing firmware that spans pre-silicon and post-silicon for all AMD SoCs.  

 

THE PERSON: 

You are passionate about firmware development with creative and effective problem-solving skills, a motivated, self-starter who can work both independently and collaboratively in fast paced environments. You have excellent technical communication, interpersonal and leadership skills. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Lead development, post silicon firmware support mainly focusing on memory subsystems, initialization, training etc for AMD Instinct™ MI Series products
  • Demonstrating excellent debugging capabilities
  • Work across engineering/firmware teams and subject areas spanning silicon, firmware, hardware, and software 
  • Coordinate debug of issues and drive them to closure 
  • Pull together meetings, set up clear agendas and follow up on action items 
  • Deliver regular progress updates toward program goals 
  • Make tough decisions such as priority calls based on partial or incomplete data  
  • Pro-actively drive continuous improvement for post-silicon memory related features
  • Must be a self-starter, and able to independently drive tasks to completion 

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 

  • Own memory subsystem bring-up including DDR and HBM initialization, training, and validation during early boot stages.
  • Strong proficiency in debugging techniques using GDB and JTAG.
  • In-depth understanding of processor architecture and embedded systems design.
  • Excellent programming skills in C for low-level hardware manipulation.
  • Basic knowledge of scripting languages like Python.
  • In-depth knowledge of the different memory technologies
  • Strong understanding of x86,x64 architecture.
  • Experience using debugging tools like AMD HDT, ITP, and Lauterbach.
  • Good understanding of task prioritization and inter-process communication.
  • Product development or systems engineering background with hardware platforms and their software & firmware ecosystems 
  • Excellent verbal communication and written, presentation skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, planning, and technical leadership skills 
  • Experience working in a fast-paced matrix-ed technical organization and multi-site environment

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: 

  • Bachelors or Masters degree (preferred) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
