THE ROLE:

This is a Server System Assembly manufacturing engineering position responsible for implementing new products and sustaining existing products at our CEM's manufacturing sites. New ideas and industry best practices and methods are required to take AMD's assembly processes to the next level for the growing DCGPU Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence products.  The scope of your responsibilities will include ensuring a stable manufacturing process, continuous yield improvements, and launching solutions on schedule.  Act as liaison, and lead with internal customers, and assembly partners and suppliers.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage implementation of automated assembly processes for high volume production
  • Drive ODM/CEM to achieve production and quality targets.
  • Generate and maintain operational procedures for AMD and manufacturing partners.
  • Create an efficient manufacturing assembly line, specifying and/or refining BOMs, workflow processes, and detailed work instructions.
  • Ability to lead an engineering and technical team meetings and projects.
  • Take ownership of products for the entire life-cycle – early NPI production to EOL.  This includes driving new product introduction schedules, resolving manufacturability issues, and driving improvements in cost and efficiency.
  • Provide product and process DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturing/Automation) input to Engineering design team(s) to enhance manufacturability and product cost.
  • Provide technical support analyzing and/or performing failure analysis for discrepant production components, assemblies and field returns.
  • Lead/participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on yield improvement, material cost reduction, capacity enhancement, and streamlining of the supply chain.
  • Manage RMA and customer issue resolution related to system assembly with our manufacturing partners.
  • Conduct regular audits to ODM/CEM factories to ensure stable processes and continuous yield improvements. 
  • Work as owner to coordinate with AMD teams and with ODM/CEM to solve yield issues immediately.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationship with other AMD departments.
  • Ability to adapt to product, supplier, and responsibility changes in an ever-changing business environment.   
  • Research, Develop and improve manufacturing processes for new technologies.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • >5 years of hands-on experience in high volume server assembly or relevant technology
  • >5 years of hands-on experience in a NPI (new product introduction) for electro-mechanical assemblies
  • Experience with quality systems and quality tool application including 8D and SPC
  • High level of Robotic and automation expertise
  • Experience with supplier interface and management
  • Able to work under pressure to deadlines
  • Good Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with geographically distributed engineering and manufacturing teams
  • Strong communication skills - English
  • Management experience is a plus
  • Training or certifications in Control Plans, PFMEA, APQP, IPC standards, and environmental compliance
  • Familiarity of board SMT assembly processes
  • Knowledge of system and server test processes
  • Experience presenting to senior management and diverse groups with possibly limited manufacturing exposure.
  • Process management techniques such as Gage R&R, six-sigma and lean manufacturing
  • 3D CAD modeling
  • Experience with Microsoft standard apps (i.e. Office)
  • Experience preparing ISO Documentation

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

B.S. degree in manufacturing engineering or equivalent field.
