The Role

IREE is an open source, MLIR based compiler and runtime solution built to handle the compilation of models from front ends like PyTorch and built to execute on different hardware architectures. Today the compiler stack targets CPUs of various flavors, GPUs as well as IPUs. Being a full-stack compiler, IREE can apply optimizations at various levels of program abstraction during the compilation flow. In this role, the candidate is expected to take a holistic view of the compilation flow to optimize the final code generated by the compiler. If you are interested in developing a compelling compiler that provides good user experience in terms of error handling and the performance of the generated code, this is the role for you! In this role you get to work on a fully open-source compiler stack where you can share your findings and co-ordinate with experts across the industry.

The person

This role is ideally suited for a person who is interested in delivering a compelling product for users of the compiler. This includes addressing crashes/miscompilation in the compiler, providing better error handling in the compiler, and building tools for better diagnostics for both miscompilations and performance bottlenecks. The candidate must be willing to root cause the compiler errors or performance bottlenecks, and co-ordinate with the rest of the team to address these issues. Being an open source project, the candidate must be willing to engage with contributors to the project across the industry.

  • Build diagnostics tools for improving the triage process
  • Enhance the testing infrastructure to ensure that this issues are caught early
  • Engage with the community to coordinate similar efforts to ensure that the community can benefit from advances made here
  • Ensure that the project is adhering to industry standards in terms of testing and benchmarking.

Preferred experiences

  • Familiarity with MLIR/LLVM
  • Familiarty with Python. PyTorch experience prefered
  • Familiarity with practices to achieve performance on CPU and GPUs.
  • Experience with deploying production software, and building testing infrastructure.
  • Strong background in C++ and diagnostic tools like ASAN, TSAN, MSAN.

Academic qualifications
