Job Description: 

As a seasoned Compiler Engineer  and lead of AMD's high performance compiler , you will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing and developing sophisticated bleeding edge compiler optimizations. You will also play a key roles in driving the production releases of the compiler. As a lead and domain expert, you will be expected to foster collaboration within various sub-groups in the compiler organization, with the various business units and with relevant HW/silicon teams.  As a lead, you will mentor and groom next level subject matter experts within the team so that compiler organization continues to push the envelope as a center of excellence for compiler technology

 

Job Duties: 

Following are the responsibilities of the Senior Compiler Engineer and lead

  • Conceptualize, design and own major bleeding-edge compiler optimization from
    • Analysis pass to transformation to code generation passes
    • Design and drive test methodologies for the given optimization
    • End to end ownership through individual contributions and driving relevant team members
  • Key Review in code changes and design proposals from team members
  • Key role in influencing both tactical and strategic directions of the overall compiler organization
  • Key role in planning, upstreaming patches to popular open source like LLVM and others and also developing influential roles in these opem source communities
  • Should be a technical evangelist and be able to work with/influence the customers, as and when needed.
  • Mentor and grow technical talent in the organization
  • Contribute to the technical content of the compiler documentation/manuals.
  • Generate a formal Performance Analysis report on performance issues, analysis and quantified improvement in performance.
  • Develop a close working relationship with Compiler QA, Compiler Support and other performance/compiler teams.

 

Qualifications / Experience:

  • BS and 20+ years, MS and 18+ years or PhD and 16+ years in compiler development
  • Hands-on experience in complex compiler code generation and optimization in at least one major general purpose compiler for C/C++/Fortran/Java-JVM a must
  • Excellent working experience with one or more commercial or open source compilers (eg: Open64, LLVM or Java JVMs etc)
  • Excellent knowledge of micro-architectural features of modern microprocessors (eg; x86 , ARM)
  • Excellent programming/debugging skills at the Assembly level.
  • Prior experience in designing, leading and driving development of large and complex compiler optimizations and algorithms
  • Prior experience with performance analysis of programs, tuning and experience with analysis tools like profilers
  • Prior experience with ARM and/or x86 target code generation a plus.
  • Good interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills
  • Experience with parallel programming domain (OpenMP, MPI, auto-parallelization etc) is a plus
  • Experience in parallel computing domain like (multi-core, GPGPU, SIMD, MIMD etc) is a plus
