THE ROLE

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Staff Software Engineer - Backend Platform Lead with strong expertise in building scalable backend services and distributed system architectures. In this role, you will lead the design and evolution of our automation platform backend, mentor both backend and web engineers, and help extend our solutions to support large-scale AMD fleet environments and DevCloud platforms. You will work closely with firmware engineers, platform architects, and infrastructure teams to deliver robust, reliable, and high-performance services that power AMD AI and data center GPU products.

You enjoy mentoring engineers, setting technical standards, and driving engineering best practices. You thrive in fast-paced environments, work independently, and collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams. Strong communication and leadership skills are essential.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the design and development of highly reliable backend services powering automation, orchestration, and infrastructure workflows
  • Architect scalable service platforms capable of supporting large AMD GPU clusters, fleet environments, and DevCloud use cases
  • Mentor backend and web engineers; provide technical leadership, code reviews, and best-practice guidance across backend and front-end teams
  • Define and evolve service architecture, API standards, reliability models, and deployment strategies
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to integrate services with hardware, firmware, CI/CD systems, and cloud environments
  • Troubleshoot complex system-level and service-level issues spanning software, infrastructure, and hardware interactions
  • Drive performance, scalability, reliability, security, and observability improvements across the platform

 

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • 8+ years professional experience in backend / service-oriented architecture development
  • Strong expertise in Python backend frameworks (Flask / FastAPI / Django) or equivalent modern service stacks
  • Proven experience designing distributed systems, microservices, or large-scale automation platforms
  • Experience with database & storage technologies: SQL, NoSQL, caching, event systems, queueing
  • Hands-on experience deploying and operating services in cloud or hybrid environments
  • Familiarity with Azure or enterprise cloud platforms is a strong plus
  • Understanding of containerization, orchestration, and CI/CD (K8s, Helm, Docker, etc.)
  • Experience working with or integrating system/firmware/hardware environments is a plus
  • Experience collaborating with or mentoring engineering teams

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS

  • Bachelor or Master's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
