The Role:

We are looking for our next team member to join the Enterprise Business Unit to support field engineering engagement with our customers in the Austin, TX area. The focus of this role will be to drive new OEM, channel, and partner opportunities for the Datacenter/Server market and to help AMD drive a new era of computing into the datacenter. You will be required to engage with the customer(s) and partner(s) as needed, and to demonstrate how AMD technology can support the needs of their business. The FAE in this role will have a special focus on pre-sales activity to support and drive new design activity into different areas of our partner's business. The FAE in this role will also provide development support activity as opportunities transition from feasibility and design win to development and production phases. Working with the Server Sales Team and the Field Engineering Director, you will be responsible for all aspects of the technical engagement required to support sales and account objectives.

  • Proven track record in CPU and server system architecture, server benchmarks, GPU computing, and server platform enablement
  • Broad technical understanding of server CPUs, platform architecture and the development process needed to successfully bring a server-based product to production
  • Excellent problem-solving, time-management, prioritization, and organizational skills, able to lead complex problems, involving multi-disciplined, multi-functional teams and many priorities at once
  • Excellent collaborative skills, and ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills and demonstrated success in building strong technical relationships (internal: Sales, Marketing, Engineering and external: OEM)
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs. (racking hardware)

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Main focus:

  • Develop technical relationships with target customer base
  • Win new AMD server opportunities with target customers
  • Support customer engineering teams throughout server development process
  • Drive customer feedback into AMD sales, business unit and engineering teams

 

More day to day will include:

  • Provide technical guidance to sales personnel and the customer in the evaluation, design and development of AMD based server and/or data center solutions or other vertical targets as identified by sales leadership.
  • Partner with sales in determining possible application of our products and solutions to meet customer requirements.
  • Align with AMD Sales, Architecture, Development, CTO, Business Unit, and other relevant teams as needed to accomplish account goals.
  • Perform technical presentations, training and updates for customers, partners, and prospects.
  • Translate customer business issues and requirements into technical solution opportunities/engagements that best demonstrate our product offerings.
  • Keep abreast of the competitive landscape and clearly articulate the technical differentiation and value proposition associated with AMD versus its competitors.
  • Keep up-to-date on relevant competitive solutions and work with internal teams to provide responses where needed
  • Assist with the solution development/architectural design to meet specific customer needs.
  • Analyze customer product solutions and evaluate product performance based on market requirements.
  • Understand and articulate AMD based technology offerings across multiple verticals (e.g. Storage, Networking, Telco, Embedded)
  • Partner with other AMD and vendor domain specialists to build specific customer solutions.
  • Install and test solutions in-house, as required, to ensure successful deployments and evaluations.
  • Lead technical engagements with customers to support design win opportunities.
  • Architect and document technical solutions that are aligned with customer objectives.
  • Lead efforts to define, scope and document technical requirements and customer expectations for opportunities of interest.
  • Provide hands-on, expert-level technical assistance to customer development and software teams.
  • Define, implement, and manage customer evaluations and Proof of Concepts as needed to demonstrate AMD product features and performance.
  • Be a credible authority to OEM on direct and indirect product capabilities.

 

Preferred Experience:

A specialized knowledge of server software environments including Operating systems (Windows, Linux), compilers, benchmarks, and targeted applications that may be used to validate server platforms for the following:

  • Cloud and datacenter computing
  • Data management and analytics (Spark, Oracle, SAP)
  • High Performance Computing (HPL, SPEC, STREAM, OpenMP/MPI)
  • Software Defined Storage (IOMeter, IOZone, HDFS, CEPH)

 

Additionally, we are seeking:

  • Proven experience in server platform architecture and/or platform development experience
  • Firm understanding of platform development process from concept to production.
  • Proficient in server software ecosystem (ie: OS/Hypervisors, Compilers, Libraries, debug tools, development tools and validation workloads).
  • Knowledgeable in platform firmware features (BIOS, BMC, SMU).
  • Hands-on experience and strong expertise in server hardware ecosystem at the node, rack and datacenter level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the setup and configuration of server systems including software, networking and storage infrastructure.
  • Experience with virtualization technology and one or more hypervisor solutions
  • Someone with the desire to continuously learn

 

Academic Credentials:

BS or Advanced degree with proven professional experience required (degree should be in a Technical field - e.g. Engineering or Computer Science
