SENIOR FIRMWARE ENGINEER
THE ROLE:
We are looking for a Senior Engineer with an obsession for firmware. As part of the role, this engineer will work closely with other firmware engineers, developers and architects across various IPs in designing and implementing firmware that spans pre-silicon and post-silicon for all AMD SoCs.
THE PERSON:
You are passionate about firmware development with creative and effective problem-solving skills, a motivated, self-starter who can work both independently and collaboratively in fast paced environments. You have excellent technical communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, develop, debug, verify and/or validate firmware/ BIOS, software and/or hardware.
- Participate in day-to-day firmware/Software development work with hand-on programming.
- Provide consultation to internal and external customers regarding AMD features and programming requirements.
- Partner with Platform team to bring-up the BIOS and firmware during Embedded SOC bring-up.
- Partner with HW and Silicon validation teams for verification of all embedded features in the Silicon IP.
- Support the triage and debug of critical bugs from BIOS side that require multi-team interactions.
- Work on software POCs (Proof of Concepts) for early enablement of new technology.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Prior years of experience and/or education within the semiconductor industry.
- Experience working with areas of Memory including DDR3/4/5, HBM, etc.
- Experience with x86, ARM and/or RISC-V architecture.
- Experience Embedded firmware and/or device driver development.
- Experience with board, processor, or ASIC bring-up.
- Experience with Embedded System protocols DDR, SPI, eSPI, I2C, LPC, and PCIe.
- Experience in hardware/software interfaces and debugging sophisticated issues in CPU and firmware using JTAG, source code debuggers and other tools.
- Programming Language/ Concepts:
- Debugging skills to support legacy and current product line
- Operating System concepts.
- Complete mastery of C programming language with recent programming experience, logical thinking
- Python
- Operating System concepts.

- Good debugging knowledge
Should know how to debug OS issue (Windows and Linux) from firmware perspective
- Prior experience for working with ISV (Independent Software Vendors) and enabling IBV (Independent BIOS Vendors) for enabling x86 / ARM platforms.
- EDKII and UEFI
- Should know EDKII Tianocore very well
- Should be familiar with UEFI, IPMI, ACPI spec very well
- Should know how to develop packages, modules, drivers and libraries.
- Processor architecture
- Should know at least one processor architecture either X86 or ARM; X86 will be preferred.
- I/O or peripheral protocols.
- Should know I2c, I3c, UART and specifically SPI/eSPI protocol.
- Good to have PCIe knowledge
- Should familiar with enterprise level day to day activitie
- Git, Jira, CI, release cycle, deliveries, pre-silicon and post-silicon.
- Should be familiar with working in a pre-silicon and simulator environment.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelors or Masters degree (preferred) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
