Summary of Position:
As Director of Environmental Services
The Environmental Services Director (ESD) reports directly to the Chief Human Resources Officer. The ESD provides leadership and supervision to all environmental services staff, coordinates department activities and staff meetings on a regular basis. The ESD is responsible for directing and implementing cleaning areas for the Environmental Services (EVS) staff and monitoring EVS staff performance. In addition, the ESD oversees all training including but not limited to infection control, terminal and standard cleaning for the entire organization while ensuring staff competencies are met. Develops and manages budgeting to meet department, organizational and patient safety goals as it applies to linens that touch patient care. The ESD is responsible for ensuring appropriate linen par levels to meet the demands of the organizations patient population while ensuring regulatory compliance at all times. The ESD is also responsible for managing and recordkeeping of biomedical waste including shredding of confidential documents, pest control system-wide. The ESD works with infection control and reports on high touch points including and not limited to door knobs, light switches, remote control and nurse call handsets, the ESD also monitors patient room cleanliness through various reporting methods. The ESD may be required to work in the field when the department is short staffed. The ESD responds to all unannounced regulatory surveys as applicable to their role. The ESD is required to attend Environmental Care meetings and ensures ongoing monitoring of departmental indicators and performance improvement activities and reports activities as directed.
Qualifications
Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent education/experience.
• Courses in housekeeping or institutional management in healthcare required.
Experience:
• Minimum of five years recent experience in environmental services in healthcare.
• Previous administrative/supervisory experience in a hospital or similar institution.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Ability to analyze and interpret financial documents.
• Sufficient computer skills are required.
• In compliance with patient safety standards, must be able to effectively communicate in English; Bilingual abilities preferred.
Certifications/Licensure:
• Valid California or Nevada Driver's license (depending on state of employee's residence) or ability to obtain prior to start date.
• 3 year DMV Printout showing clean driving record meeting requirements of Barton Liability Insurance Policy.

Essential Functions
1. Provides consistently exceptional care at all times.
2. Provides supportive and compassionate leadership to staff:

5. Is responsible for, and ensures that the hospital environment is maintained in a sanitary, attractive and orderly condition.
6. Participate in hospital committees as required. Represents hospital in professional & civic organizations.
7. Ensures the competency of all staff:
• Determines standards of performance
• Ensures staff is oriented to the hospital, department and performance meets expectations.
• Staff performance is accurately evaluated. All evaluation are completed annually and according to organizational timeframes.
• Develops & follows through with employees development plan when opportunity for improvement is identified
• Ensures all paperwork is completed and processed according to organizational policy and timeframes.
• Promotes staff development
• Develops annual education and competency plan
8. Develops and oversees department Performance Improvement ( PI) activities:
• Develops department goals and objectives.
• Determines departmental PI monitors.
• Organizes and oversees department projects.
• Educates staff in PI methodology and promotes participation by all staff.
• Accurately prepares and reports departmental activities and findings as scheduled.
9. Develops and manages budget according to organizational goals and objected and patient safety standards:
• Ensures annual budget review and revisions are completed as required.
• Reviews monthly departmental accounting detail for accuracy.
• Ensures reports is corrected if needed.
10. Has extensive knowledge of all professional and regulatory standards that apply to department activities:
• Ensures ongoing departmental compliance.
• Develops and implements corrective action when deficiencies are identified.
• Develops and implement departmental policies and procedures that guide the provision of environmental services.
11. Provides direct housekeeping and linen services as required to meet the customer needs.
12. In compliance with HIPAA, respects and protects the confidentiality of all protected health information.
13. Obtains, maintains and provides documentation of completion on all EVS required. Certifications and licensure prior to expiration (including Driver license and proof of current auto insurance where applicable).
14. Operates within the confines of his/her scope of practice as determined by the knowledge, skills and ability obtained through job-related education and training and as approved by all governing, regulatory and, when appropriate, licensing authorities.
15. Responds to the needs of the department by performing other duties, as necessary.
