Position Summary
The Food Services operates a food truck, two cafes and a cafeteria serving campus. The Assistant Retail Manager oversees these locations and the employees within. The Assistant Retail Manager develops and maintains cleanliness and product display standards and ensures staff maintain these plans. The Assistant Retail Manager is responsible for providing thorough equipment use training such as how to use/clean espresso machines, use point of sale, print reports, count money and deposit money. This position trains staff to provide outstanding customer service and practice proper food safety techniques. The position also manages inventory, cash tills, performs ordering, inspection and storage of food and supplies. The Assistant Retail Manager reports to the Food Service Manager.
This is a 11-month cyclical position.
Pay, Benefits & Work SchedulePosition Salary Range: $3,736/month - $4,977/month.
The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Individuals newly hired to Classified position are placed in a salary range based on the WPEA Collective Bargaining Agreement. This is a 8-month cyclical position and actual annual wage will be prorated during cyclical periods.
We offer comprehensive compensation package with salary and benefits as the main components. Competitive salary is within the Range stated above, and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This is a Classified, overtime eligible position and not represented by the Washington Public Employee Association of Higher Education (WPEA-HE).

About the DepartmentBellevue College (BC) Food Services serves the college main campus by offering a full service cafeteria, three coffee shops and a Pizza Cafe (Housing) that serve hot food, light snacks, pastries, espresso, tea and beverages.
Essential FunctionsSupervision
- Plan, assign and review work of retail staff.
- Adjust work assignments to respond to fluctuating workloads.
- Create and post employee schedules.
- Supervise and train retail staff for perspective positions including coffee preparation, point of sale, cleanliness, product display standards, cash handling, customer service and food safety.
- Recommend corrective actions and training needs of retail staff (including student employees) to the Food Services Manager.
- Provide feedback, instruction and coaching to retail staff to enable continuous improvement and to promote optimum job performance.
- Manage cash tills at each retail location ensuring accounts balance daily.
Food Service Operations
- Manage inventory on hand, ensure stock is rotated for reduced waste.
- Initiate purchase orders for food and supplies at each food services retail location.
- Work closely with the Assistant Kitchen Manager to coordinate food needs at retail locations.
- Initiate purchase order for food, beverages and paper goods.
- Ensure great customer service at all retail locations.
- Monitor sale trends and communicate insight to the Food Services Manager.
Food Safety
- Ensure proper food handling, sanitation and safety practices and proper care and use of equipment in dining area and retail locations.
- Direct set up steam tables, salad bars, sandwich and grill stations.
- Maintain food at proper temperatures and ensure all equipment is clean, sanitized and kept in working condition.
- Maintain and upkeep of safety and sanitation standards at the highest level and ensure compliance with all regulatory boards.
Other
- Collaborate with the kitchen and events for catering as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate Degree in food service management, nutritional care or related field OR two years of experience in an institution or restaurant preparing or serving food. Relevant work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.
- Must have King County Food Handler's Permit at the time of hire.
- Must have a valid Washington Driver's License with two (2) years of driving experience to operate the college vehicles.
- Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills along with customer service skills.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of food safety protocols and health regulations.
- Effective organizational and time management skills.
- Demonstrated working experience in a collaborative and inclusive environment with colleagues and students.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
