This position is expected to begin Fall 2024 and will be a part of large cohort of new faculty joining the Bellevue College Community. 

The Cybersecurity BAS and IT programs seek a dedicated, experienced, and motivated individual to provide leadership, engagement, and discipline expertise in continuing to move the program forward in innovative ways. As a full-time faculty member in Cybersecurity and IT, the successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to student success through teaching and learning excellence, including: directing student learning in assigned courses, which would include both in-person and online modalities; establishing and assessing student learning outcomes; participating in the ongoing development of program curriculum and activities; advising of students and mentoring of faculty; participating in college, division, and program governance and decision making; meeting accreditation requirements; serving as program chair if needed; maintaining current knowledge and skills in areas of assignment; engaging in professional development and/or certification activities; building collaborative relationships within the Bellevue College community, the program's advisory committee and the community at large; and fostering a positive, caring learning environment in which diversity and pluralism are valued. 

The selected candidate will perform duties and functions under the direction of the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and will be directly responsible to the Division Dean of the School of Business & Technology. 

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Position Salary Range: $77,250.30/year - $108,344.14/year

Annual salary is based on a 176-day contract with a minimum of $77,250.30; beginning salary will be determined by the assessment of the candidate's education and related experience. New hires cannot be placed above $82,831.36 unless exceptional circumstances prevail. Certain positions may also be eligible for assignment/project-based additional compensation, including a High Demand Stipend up to $8,350 annually, prorated based on the discipline and duration of the assignment. All additional compensations are subject to change depending on funding and negotiated agreement.

We offer comprehensive compensation package with salary and benefits as the main components. Generous benefits package is offered through Washington State plans that includes multiple medical, dental, life and disability coverage choices for employees and dependents; choices of retirement and deferred compensation plans; paid personal leave plan; transit program, reduced tuition, employee discounts and memberships, etc.

In addition to teaching, full-time faculty maintains office hours and participate in department and college activities. This position is represented by the Bellevue College Association of Higher Education (BCAHE) union.

About the Department  

The School of Business & Technology at Bellevue College is dedicated to creating an educational setting that combines business knowledge and technological skills effectively. Our mission is to provide transformative education that blends theory with practical, real-world skills, creating a diverse and inclusive community of learners ready to excel in their chosen careers.

Within the School of Business & Technology, our Information Technology (IT) program offers an Associate in Applied Science – Transfer degree designed to impart essential technical and soft skills. This program seamlessly transitions students into our advanced Cybersecurity Bachelor of Applied Science program, which focuses on system and cloud security, as well as DevSecOps. Together, these programs prepare students for roles ranging from Technical Support and Network Administration to specialized positions like Security Engineering and IT Consulting.

Bellevue College is actively seeking forward-thinking educators who are committed to using their expertise in Cybersecurity and IT as a vehicle for change, empowerment, and inclusion.

Essential Functions  

Instructional Responsibilities:
The individual in this role will play a fundamental role in the Cybersecurity BAS and IT programs at Bellevue College. Responsible for providing comprehensive instruction, the selected candidate will lead a range of courses relating to Cybersecurity and IT. The individual will also provide essential academic guidance to students and mentorship to faculty colleagues. Upholding and exceeding accreditation standards for the program will be a critical part of this responsibility. Full-time faculty teach in face-to-face settings and synchronous and asynchronous virtual settings, and are expected to deliver in-person classes or a combination of in-person and virtual classes.

Non-Instructional Responsibilities:
Beyond instructional duties, the role requires engagement within the Bellevue College community and the broader industry sector. The individual will actively collaborate with the program's advisory committee, ensuring the curriculum is aligned with evolving industry needs. Furthermore, a commitment to continuous professional development is essential, as is the need to stay abreast of industry trends and maintain necessary certifications. The role also emphasizes the importance of fostering a culture of inclusivity and promoting the values of diversity and pluralism within the educational setting.

Minimum Qualifications  
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a related field and 2 years of relevant work experience; OR a Master's degree from an accredited institution in a related field
  • Experience in teaching and/or mentoring in diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
  • Dedication to increasing inclusivity and closing opportunity gaps for historically marginalized students with intentional curriculum and instruction design¿
  • Certified in one or more areas, such as, but not limited to: CompTIA A+, CompTIA N+, CompTIA Security+, CCNA, AWS, etc.
  • Advanced skills in at least two of the following areas: system administration, network design & architecture, cloud computing & management, disaster recovery, advanced networking, DevSecOps, security policy, and threat mitigation
  • Awareness of current industry trends in information systems and technology
  • Knowledge of, and ability to, implement Security best practices in both technical and procedural capacities
  • Evidence of understanding the equity gaps within the Cybersecurity and IT discipline
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to connect and build relationships with students and colleagues from varied ethnicities, ages, backgrounds, learning styles, and abilities
Preferred Qualifications  
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in a related field and 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively teach in traditional, hybrid, and fully online environments
  • Record of active contribution to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts, whether through teaching, professional service, or community engagement
  • Experience with culturally responsive pedagogy and practice in teaching
  • Evidence addressing equity gaps within the Cybersecurity and IT discipline
  • Previous leadership experience in an academic or professional setting, such as serving as a program chair, department head, team lead, or other significant leadership roles
  • Demonstrated willingness and readiness to assume leadership roles within the program and the institution, including but not limited to: program chair responsibilities, committee chairpersonship, or leading special project teams
