Position Summary
The Director of the Social Justice Center reports to the Vice President of the Office of Community Care and Institutional Transformation (OCCIT) and provides strategic leadership and the direction for the Social Justice Center (SJC). This position manages all day-to-day responsibilities associated with the SJC, including programming, staffing, outreach and engagement. This role supports the mission and vision of the Office of Community Care & Institutional Transformation and supports the activities and needs of the office. Additionally, the position provides staff support for employee affinity groups and engages the campus community in activities and events that support social justice education and inclusive community development.
Pay, Benefits & Work SchedulePosition Salary Range: $93,880/year - $136,126/year
The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Typically, new hire starts no higher than $104,442/year based on Bellevue College Exempt salary schedule.

The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, which means that you are not eligible for overtime pay.

About the DepartmentThe Office of Community Care & Institutional Transformation has a primary function at Bellevue College of centering the people that make up our community. We understand the root causes of harm and disrupt behaviors that sustain systems rooted in a false belief in human hierarchy through continuous learning and collaborative practices. We are responsible for advancing community care in all of our institutional strategies and practices.
Essential FunctionsSocial Justice Center Management
- Engages, supports and educates the campus community on social justice issues related to campus care and inclusive campus transformation efforts.
- Leads and implements calendar of events and programs for the SJC in support of employees and students.
- Prepares internal end of year engagement reports and reports regarding external collaborations for OCCIT and SJC efforts.
- Establishes procedures for, interprets and applies the administrative policies for the work of the unit.
- Coordinates, plans, organizes, and budgets special projects and events in collaboration with other departments as defined by the Vice President
- Ensures and maintains physical space of the SJC and other spaces managed by OCCIT
- Supervises student employees associated with the SJC
External Community & Industry Engagement
- Strategizes, plans, and implements community outreach with stakeholders of historically excluded communities that include but not limited to: non-profit organizations, religious institutions, community centers, businesses, and K-12 partners.
- Solicits stakeholder feedback and translates to tangible activities, initiatives, events, or collaborations.
- Analyzes institutional and community data to provide insights and understanding of community and college unmet needs and interests.
- Identifies external trends and recognizing promising practices which will support the College¿s strategic plans.
- Maintains relationships with a diversity of related organizations, with the intention of working together and improving BC¿s brand recognition within the community.
Internal Community & Program Engagement
- Directs the organization of educational events, networking opportunities, and social activities for affinity groups.
- Strategizes, plans, and implements the development of affinity group presence on website, onboarding, and campus programming.
- Analyzes demographic data to provide insights and understanding of community development and college unmet needs and interests.
- Directs the development of trainings aligned with SJC efforts and work on behalf of the OCCIT, quarterly retreats, and other diversity related events and tools to further the diversity mission of BC.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree. Any combination of relevant education and/or experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible event management, training, facilitation, and leadership.
- Demonstrated training and experience in leading the evaluation and advancement of institutional initiatives using a people-centered and equity focused approach.
- Demonstrated experience in maintaining websites.
- Demonstrated experience in organizing and managing events, including conferences and institutional gatherings.
- Experience and proficiency in supporting executive leadership with professionalism
- Effective communications skills, both written and verbal, and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience in working independently and/or collaboratively to develop compliance policies, as well as related training sessions, informational events, and presentation materials.
- Experience fostering collaboration between individuals and teams from various areas and with differing perspectives and philosophies.
- Demonstrated understanding of state and federal policies that impact higher education.
- Demonstrated experience in applying data informed practices to support change management processes.
- Advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook) , including use of complex formatting, advanced features, and graphics.
