Position Summary  

Assistant Adjunct Faculty teach at Bellevue College's main campus and may teach online.  In addition, faculty hold office hours and engage students actively in their own learning, including discussion, writing, and analysis; maintain high standards regarding course content; and provide students with timely feedback on their course work and examinations. Adjunct faculty report to the Dean of Social Science.   

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Adjunct Professor is typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment. 

Quarterly remuneration for 5-credit lecture class is $6,418.75 - $7,824.66. Compensation is prorated based on type and duration of assignments. Individuals newly hired to Adjunct Professor group at the college are placed at the minimum rate per union bargaining agreement. 

Generous benefits package for eligible employees is offered through Washington State plans that includes multiple medical, dental, life and disability coverage choices for employees and dependents; choices of retirement and deferred compensation plans; paid personal leave plan; transit program, reduced tuition, employee discounts and memberships, etc. Eligible employees are faculty who work a combined load of at least 50% at Bellevue College and other Washington State public institutions of higher education for two consecutive quarters are eligible for health and dental insurance at the start of the second consecutive quarter. 

In addition to teaching, faculty maintains office hours and may participate in department and college activities. This position is represented by the Bellevue College Association of Higher Education (BCAHE) union.

About the Department  

The Economics Department provides courses to enhance the understanding of the history and operation of modern economies and to prepare students to think more critically about important economic problems.  The department offers classes in the two main discipline areas of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, three elective courses, and two upper division classes, Health Economics and Econometrics.  The department is committed to a pluralistic approach to reflect the diversity of opinion in economics and diversity of our student populations.   We expect our content to speak to the lived experience of our students, and we want the department to connect economics to social issues that will engage students in social and civil activity.  

The Economics Department at Bellevue College invites applications for qualified adjunct instructors interested in teaching part-time Principles of Economics (Econ 100), Microeconomics (201), Macroeconomics (202), Health Economics (315), or Econometrics (400).  

Essential Functions  

The Economics department offers a variety of course modalities during the academic year, including hybrid, in-person, and asynchronous online classes, both the upper division classes tend to be taught in asynchronous online modality. To see a representative schedule visit our course schedule.

  • Be available to teach on-campus or  online, as dictated by program need, course schedule, and enrollment demand. As assigned by the chair, some classes meet daily, while others meet twice per week. Some courses meet Monday through Thursday for 50 minutes, while others meet twice per week for either 50 minutes or 1 hour and 50 minutes.
  • Be available to students outside of class periodically to engage students in active learning and provide students with timely feedback about their work.
  • Work with peers to maintain high standards of course content and adhere to program policies, student success efforts, and assessment practices
Minimum Qualifications  
  • Master's degree in Economics or Master's degree in Public Health with concentration in Economics from an accredited institution
  • Experience teaching/training or industry experience with Applied Econometrics and/or Healthcare Finance or Public Health
  • Demonstrated ability to connect and build relationships with students and/or colleagues from varied ethnicities, ages, backgrounds, learning styles, and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications  
  • Experience with e-learning systems (e.g. Canvas, Blackboard)
  • Experience teaching Economics in Higher education, preferably in a community college.
