PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

The Cath Lab Clinical Attendant is responsible for supporting the cardiovascular team by assisting with both clinical and operational functions within the Cardiovascular Department. Responsibilities include patient transport, room turnover, supply management, basic clinical tasks such as obtaining vital signs, and providing clerical and customer-service support. This role enhances workflow efficiency, supports patient preparedness for procedures, and contributes to safe, high‑quality patient care.        

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Duty 1: Obtains and documents patient vital signs.

  • Duty 2: Prepares patients for procedures under direction of licensed staff.

  • Duty 3: Observes and reports patient condition changes promptly.

  • Duty 4: Assists in maintaining clean and safe clinical environments.

  • Duty 5: Responsible for safe and efficient transportation of patients, equipment, and materials.

  • Duty 6: Cleans and restocks procedure rooms.

  • Duty 7: Checks with leadership for additional tasks to maximize productivity.

  • Duty 8: Assists CV staff with routine operational tasks.

  • Duty 9: Demonstrates multitasking and prioritization skills.

  • Duty 10: Utilizes EMR efficiently and adapts to evolving systems.

  • Duty 11: Adheres to policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

  • Duty 12: Follows departmental and organizational chain of command.                              

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Graduate or GED equivalent

  • BLS Certification (within 6 months) of hire

  • Ability to obtain accurate vital signs, weight, height, pulse oximetry, and patient history elements as assigned

  • Demonstrated ability to support patient care appropriate to age, status, and condition

  • Ability to recognize and communicate changes in patient condition to licensed staff

  • Accepts organizational policy regarding radiation protection monitoring and exposure

  • Efficient and accurate use of the electronic medical record (EMR)

  • Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required.

  • Individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his/her assigned unit/department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status.  Must be able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area's policies and procedures.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous healthcare experience (MA, PCA, EMT, or similar role)

  • Experience obtaining vital signs or supporting clinical workflows desirable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent walking, lifting, bending, climbing, squatting, kneeling, twisting, sitting and standing. This position requires continuous walking and standing for extensive periods of time. The associate must be able to lift 50 pounds or more to assist with direct patient care. The associate must have corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. Individual must have excellent eye-hand coordination, finger dexterity to operate equipment, push and pull patients while providing treatment, and reach work above the shoulders. Associate must have excellent verbal skills to communicate with patients, physicians, and co-workers.
