PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

The center core attendant will be required to be an equipment/instrument specialist for the operating room and will be responsible to assure all equipment and instruments be operational and available the day of surgery. To accomplish this, this person will work very closely with counterparts in materials management and in the operating room. This person will be responsible for planning, organizing, and controlling operating room equipment and instrument resources and will maintain active communication among interdepartmental staff, service line management, and service line team members.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Duty 1: Demonstrates understanding of body mechanics utilized in the transport of patients, supplies and equipment.

Duty 2:  Utilizes effective communication with all departments to achieve transfer of information necessary for continuous patient care.

Duty 3: Identifies flow of daily schedule to anticipate needs of assigned OR suite.

Duty 4: Maintains flow of patient care through identification and delivery of supplies and equipment.

Duty 5: Demonstrates understanding of sterile techniques utilized in the preparation and completion of surgical procedures.

Duty 6: Maintains orderly and clean environment through daily cleaning and restocking.

Duty 7:  Promotes a clean safe working environment through safe transport and disposal of biohazard items.

Duty 8: Demonstrates cost effective awareness and practices efficient and non-wasteful use of supplies and equipment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school education or GED equivalent.
  • Capable of communication/comprehending English language.
  • Individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his/her assigned unit/department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status.  Must be able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area's policies and procedures.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year's medical experience preferred
  • ORA training background preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires a full range of body motions with intermittent walking, lifting, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, and standing. The associate will be required to walk for up to one hour a day, sit for four to six hours a day and stand for one hour a day. The individual must be able to lift twenty to fifty pounds and reach work above the shoulders. The individual must have good eye-hand coordination and fine finger dexterity for simple grasping tasks. The individual must have excellent verbal communication skills to perform daily tasks. The associate must have corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. The individual must be able to operate a motor vehicle for business travel and community involvement.

This position is classified “at risk” for possible occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens (HBV, HIV, etc.)
