Are you a highly customer focused PreSales Solutions Engineer (SE) with deep expertise in CMDB modernization, Service Management, Discovery, and Service Modeling, with a strong emphasis on CMDB governance using BMC Helix CMDB Governor? If you are shaking your head YES, then read on! 
This is not an engineering or delivery role. The Solutions Engineer acts as a best practice leader, enablement specialist, and customer advocate, helping customers and field teams understand how to build and sustain a trusted, AIready CMDB using BMC Helix. 
The role is centered on two strategic focus areas: 
1. CMDB Modernization Enablement – enabling customers and the field to move from fragmented, lowtrust CMDBs to a single, governed, serviceaware source of truth aligned to ITSM and ServiceOps outcomes. 
2. CMDB Governor Champion – serving as the authoritative voice on CMDB governance, data quality, and stewardship using BMC Helix CMDB Governor, including AIassisted monitoring, insights, and recommendations. 
The ideal candidate is passionate about CMDB trust, governance at scale, and AIenabled operations, and is comfortable championing customer ideas to influence both solution strategy and product direction. Key Responsibilities: 
• Customer Engagement & Advisory 
Partner with account teams to lead strategic discovery conversations focused on CMDB trust, data quality, service alignment, and operational maturity. 
Act as a trusted advisor on CMDB modernization, explaining why CMDBs fail, what good looks like, and how BMC Helix addresses these challenges. 
Deliver executive and practitioner level presentations, workshops, and solution walkthroughs focused on governance, value, and outcomes, not tool mechanics. 
Capture and champion customer ideas, pain points, and success stories, feeding them back into solution positioning and product strategy. 
CMDB Modernization Enablement (Customers & Field) 
Enable customers and field teams with repeatable CMDB modernization guidance, including:  
Establishing a single, authoritative production dataset 
Moving from assetcentric to serviceaware CMDBs 
Aligning discovery, normalization, and reconciliation to business outcomes 
Articulate how BMC Helix CMDB supports ITSM, ITOM, AIOps, and observability by providing trusted, consumable configuration data. 
Provide reference models, maturity frameworks, and adoption patterns that help teams modernize incrementally rather than “boil the ocean.” 
CMDB Governor / Governance Champion (BMC Helix) 
Serve as the CMDB Governor subject matter expert, explaining how BMC Helix CMDB Governor:  
Continuously monitors CI data quality 
Detects systemic and recurring data issues 
Provides AIassisted insights, root cause analysis, and remediation recommendations 
Guide customers on governance best practices, including ownership, stewardship, certification, and lifecycle management. 
Position CMDB Governor as an operational safety net that sustains trust when manual stewardship does not scale. 
Advocate governance as a business enabler, supporting audit readiness, automation, and AI consumption—not as an administrative burden. 
AI Readiness & AI Advocacy 
Educate customers on why a trusted CMDB is foundational for AI, AIOps, and generative AI use cases. 
Demonstrate how BMC Helix CMDB and CMDB Governor provide AIconsumable configuration data for insights, recommendations, and intelligent automation. 
Show curiosity and readiness to adopt AIassisted workflows, including HelixGPTenabled insights and agentdriven governance. 
Actively learn and stay current on how AI is shaping Service Management and ServiceOps, and help customers prepare for that future. 
Solution Positioning & Field Enablement 
Position CMDB, Discovery, Service Modeling, and CMDB Governor as foundational capabilities, not standalone tools. 
Translate CMDB concepts into clear business value, such as:  
Faster incident triage 
Safer, impactaware change 
Reduced operational risk 
AIdriven insights at scale 
Enable sales teams and partners through targeted enablement sessions, narratives, and best practice guidance. 

  • Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience. 
  • 7+ years in a Solutions Engineering, PreSales, Advisory, or Consulting role in Service Management or ServiceOps. 
  • Proven experience supporting complex enterprise customer engagements. 
  • ITIL certification or Service Management training is highly desirable. 
  • Demonstrated interest in AIenabled IT operations and governance. 
  • Strong conceptual understanding of CMDB purpose, governance, and value in modern enterprise environments. 

  • Familiarity with BMC Helix CMDB concepts, including:  

  • Normalization and reconciliation 
  • Multisource data ingestion 
  • Service and relationship modeling 
  • Understanding of CMDB Governor capabilities, including continuous data monitoring and AIassisted insights. 
  • Solid grounding in IT Service Management (ITIL) and servicecentric operations. 
  • Ability to explain how Discovery and Service Modeling support CMDB trust and operational outcomes. 
  • Handson configuration or coding experience is helpful for credibility, but this role does not involve engineering, customization, or implementation.

The annual base salary range represents the low and high end of the BMC salary range for this position. Actual salaries depend on a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training, licensure, and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. 

The range listed is just one component of BMC's employee compensation package. Other rewards may include a variable plan and country specific benefits.

At BMC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at /near the top of the range. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $129,375 - $215,625
