The Operations Manager is responsible for providing leadership, compliance oversight, and operational support for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) across the network, as well as overseeing copier lease agreements and print management services. This role oversees food service operations, contracted Food Service Management Companies (FSMCs), Regional Operations Supervisors (ROS), and school-level personnel to ensure regulatory compliance, operational consistency, and high-quality service delivery. The Operations Manager leads training, monitoring, auditing, and corrective action efforts to ensure adherence to federal, state, and district NSLP requirements, while also managing copier and print vendor relationships, lease compliance, service performance, and cost optimization to support efficient school operations.
How You Will Impact Education
Food Service Operations Oversight
- Provide oversight and direction to the Food Service Team, including ROS, FSMCs, and school-level food service personnel.
- Monitor operational performance and ensure adherence to NSLP procedures, policies, and standards.
- Maintain oversight to ensure all required food service processes and procedures are consistently followed.
- Identify areas of non-compliance and address issues promptly through corrective action plans.
- Serve as a point of escalation for food service operational and compliance concerns.
Training & Staff Development
- Develop and deliver training sessions for food service team members on NSLP regulations, processes, and best practices.
- Conduct onboarding training for new food service staff and annual refresher training for existing personnel.
- Provide NSLP-related training to ROS, FSMC staff, and school-level personnel.
- Ensure training content includes Free & Reduced Lunch (FRL), CAFÉ, After School Snack Program (ASSP), and Seamless Option (SOA) requirements.
- Maintain training documentation and ensure completion and compliance across all sites.
Compliance Oversight & Monitoring
- Maintain ongoing oversight of food service compliance to ensure adherence to federal, state, and district NSLP regulations.
- Conduct monthly compliance reviews of stored documentation in SharePoint, Epicenter, and the Monday Board.
- Verify that required documentation is complete, accurate, and submitted within required timelines.
- Confirm that uploads to Epicenter meet all NSLP documentation standards.
- Ensure Monday Board updates accurately reflect compliance activities and project status
Audit & Project Management
- Coordinate and train Food Service Team members to manage compliance and operational projects.
- Provide oversight of food service-related projects to ensure timelines, deliverables, and documentation requirements are met.
- Ensure audit and compliance documentation is accurate, complete, and readily available for review.
- Support internal and external audits by ensuring documentation and corrective actions are properly tracked and resolved.
FSMC Oversight & Vendor Management
- Maintain oversight of Food Service Management Companies (FSMCs) to ensure compliance with contract terms and NSLP regulations.
- Monitor FSMC performance and operational activities across assigned schools.
- Maintain regular communication with FSMC leadership to address operational challenges and compliance concerns.
- Address FSMC non-compliance immediately through corrective action and follow-up monitoring.
Copier Lease & Print Management
- Oversee copier lease agreements and print management services across the network.
- Manage relationships with copier and print management vendors to ensure contract compliance, service quality, and cost control.
- Monitor copier usage, service levels, and billing to ensure alignment with contractual terms and operational needs.
- Coordinate copier installations, replacements, relocations, and removals in collaboration with school and operations teams.
- Serve as point of escalation for copier service issues, performance concerns, and vendor disputes.
- Review and validate copier invoices for accuracy and compliance with lease agreements.
- Track lease terms, renewal dates, and equipment inventories; proactively support renewal, replacement, or termination decisions.
- Identify opportunities to optimize print usage, reduce costs, and standardize equipment across schools.
- Ensure copier and print management practices align with company policies, data security standards, and operational requirements.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Strong knowledge of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and related federal nutrition programs.
- Experience with food service operations, compliance monitoring, and regulatory oversight.
- Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and support cross-functional teams.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Ability to identify compliance risks and implement corrective actions effectively.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across internal teams and external vendors.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and compliance and project management tools (e.g., SharePoint, Monday, Epicenter).
- Demonstrated project management ability, including scheduling, prioritization, and follow-through.
- Exceptional organization and documentation skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management platforms (e.g., Monday, Asana, or Smartsheet).
Job Requirements
- Experience in school food service management, nutrition programs, or a related field.
- Knowledge of USDA, state, and district food service regulations and compliance standards.
- Experience working with or overseeing Food Service Management Companies (FSMCs) preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a compliance-driven environment.
- Project management experience a plus.
- Ability to travel to schools or vendor sites as required.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (or similar) for reporting and presentation
