We deliver on our promise of Strong Minds, Good Hearts™ through an education model that gives every student the opportunity for success The Senior Data Engineer is a technical authority and hands-on contributor responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data infrastructure and pipelines that support the organization's data analytics, business intelligence, and operational reporting needs. In addition to enabling advanced analytics, the Senior Data Engineer plays a critical role in architecting and implementing integrations between disparate systems, including internal platforms, vendor solutions, and external services, to create seamless and efficient data flows across the organization's enterprise architecture ecosystem. The Senior Data Engineer serves as both an individual contributor and technical mentor, working closely with data analysts, data engineers, business intelligence teams, and business stakeholders to ensure reliable, high-quality data delivery.

This position plays a critical role in translating business requirements into scalable data solutions, establishing best practices for data engineering, fosters effective and scalable solutions, and ensuring data quality, security, and compliance across multiple school locations and subsidiaries. The role requires deep expertise in modern data engineering technologies, data warehousing, ETL/ELT tools, programming languages, and cloud platform capabilities.

How You Will Impact Education

Data Architecture and Engineering

• Design, develop, and maintain efficient, effective, and scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes to integrate data from multiple source systems.
• Architect and implement solutions within a data warehouse environment, including data modeling, optimization, and performance tuning
• Develop and maintain a cloud-based data infrastructure
• Create and maintain data models (dimensional, relational) that support business intelligence and analytics requirements
• Build robust, reusable data pipelines that ensure data accuracy, consistency, and availability across the organization

Data Integration and Quality

• Design, develop, and maintain customized integrations to enable seamless data flows across all systems within the enterprise architecture.
• Develop source-to-target mappings and maintain comprehensive data lineage documentation
• Perform data profiling and analysis to validate business domains, ensure data quality, and identify data anomalies
• Implement data validation frameworks and quality checks to ensure accuracy and completeness
• Work with stakeholders to understand source system data models and translate technical data structures into business-friendly formats
• Manage vendor data integrations and establish secure data access protocols, including external API connections and third-party service integrations

Collaboration and Requirements Analysis

• Elicit, interpret, and document business requirements from stakeholders across multiple business units
• Act as liaison between business teams and technical teams to ensure requirements are accurately understood and implemented
• Partner with Data Analysts and Business Intelligence teams to support Power BI reporting and analytics initiatives
• Participate in data model reviews, architecture discussions, and solution design sessions to ensure high-quality deliverables
• Provide technical guidance and subject matter expertise on data usage, metadata standards, and best practices

DevOps and Platform Management

• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines for data infrastructure using version control (GitHub) and orchestration tools
• Monitor data pipeline performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions for optimization
• Establish and enforce data engineering standards, documentation practices, and code review processes
• Manage data security, access controls, and compliance requirements in alignment with organizational policies
• Provide day-to-day support, incident management, and resolution for data-related issues

Leadership and Innovation

• Mentor junior data engineers and analysts on technical skills, best practices, and professional development
• Drive innovation by identifying and evaluating new technologies, tools, and methodologies to improve data capabilities
• Lead technical knowledge sharing sessions and contribute to internal documentation and training materials
• Partner with management to identify strategic opportunities for leveraging data to advance business objectives

Required Qualifications and Skills

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience
• 7+ years of professional experience in data engineering, data architecture, or related technical roles
• Demonstrated experience designing and implementing large-scale data systems and cloud-based data architectures

Technical Skills

• Programming Languages: Expert-level proficiency in Python (7+ years); strong SQL skills (7+ years) with experience in complex query optimization
• Cloud Platforms: 5+ years hands-on experience with Azure (preferred) or AWS cloud services, including data lake, data warehouse, and serverless computing
• Data Warehousing: Strong experience with Snowflake (preferred) or similar modern cloud data warehouse platforms
• ETL/ELT Tools: Proficiency with modern data integration platforms and orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks)
• Data Modeling: 5+ years experience with dimensional modeling, data vault, and relational database design concepts
• Version Control: Experience with Git/GitHub for collaborative development and CI/CD pipelines
• APIs and Integration: Experience working with RESTful APIs, JSON, and data integration patterns
• Business Intelligence: Experience supporting Power BI, Tableau, or similar BI platforms

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience in K-12 education sector or familiarity with educational data systems (PowerSchool, SchoolMint, etc.)
• Experience with NetSuite ERP system and financial data integration
• Knowledge of Celigo or similar integration platforms
• Experience with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) and infrastructure as code
• Familiarity with data governance frameworks and data quality tools
• Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., CosmosDB, MongoDB)
• Working knowledge of project management principles and Agile methodologies
• Experience with advanced analytics or machine learning data pipeline development
• Relevant certifications (AWS Certified Data Analytics, Snowflake SnowPro, Azure Data Engineer Associate)

• Primarily remote/hybrid work environment with occasional travel to CSUSA locations as needed
