MANAGER ENTERPRISE APPLICATION ARCHITECTURE

 

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY? The Manager of Enterprise Application Architecture is responsible for managing the IT application architecture by developing, documenting, and maintaining a holistic, current and future state views of all systems, technologies, and infrastructures that support CNB's current technology operations and future state strategy. This role will help drive the overall technology lifecycle (evaluation, selection, architecture, implementation and eventual retirement) for City National Bank to drive an integrated simple, modern, and scalable experience for clients and colleagues across the bank. The managerial role will be responsible for developing a high performing and effective team which includes setting direction with responsibility of the people, budget, and outcomes under their direct control. The major focus of the role will include directly managing the Application Architectures and Guild activities, and assisting in the delivery of new Core EA functions. The manager will have a small team of applications architects and matrixed enterprise architects who will provide EA Guild oversite, drive application architecture diagramming/modeling via EA tools, streamline and automate application architecture activities and assist in strategic planning activities to develop future-state application architectures, strategies and roadmaps.

 

WHAT WILL YOU DO?
  • Define and maintain both a current state and future state application, technology, and infrastructure architectures for the bank. Ensure that future-state architectures and roadmaps are complete, consistent and feasible. Assist in building the future state application architectures working with EAs, T&I delivery teams, and business stakeholders to execute on the strategy. As part of project teams, assess and make recommendations regarding the target state of architectures.
  • Assist in developing and publishing application, technology, and infrastructure patterns and best practices via the internally developed Architecture Series SharePoint site.
  • Ensure IT programs and projects are aligned with the future state architectures and adhere to appropriate standards, to ensure all aspects of the technology landscape (e.g. applications, data, technology etc.) work together effectively and that project and operational costs are minimized through architectural guidance.
  • Work with internal T&I internal resources, 3rd party professional services, and key business partners to assess their vision and views on the current state of systems and target operating model needs. Build out future state architectures to support these business needs. Balance time and cost to deliver tactical and strategic initiatives.
  • Assist in defining and maintaining an architecture governance process to ensure that IT projects and activities adhere to current standards, to future state architectures, and support overall architectural strategies. Governance will consist of early-state advice activities as well as explicit approval steps, with the aim of maximizing the re-use of application systems and shared services, and reducing time and risks in project delivery.
  • Work with direct reports and the boarder EA team to ensure staff have clear direction, feedback on their performance, appropriate training and feel that they are well managed. Responsible for staffing decisions (hiring, promotion, discipline, organization, etc.).
  • Provide expert IT consultancy and advice to business units to enable the correct choice and appropriate design of IT solutions to support the future-state architecture. Create project assessments and associated technology recommendations.
  • Gather research and perform experimentation related to relevant new technologies.
  • Prepare written assessments and create presentations to reflect current architecture status and to advocate for the future state architecture.
  • Establishing and implement new policies and standards related to application, technology, and database support.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with senior colleagues across IT and the bank.

 

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED? Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in an IT architecture role required
  • Minimum 3 years of managerial experience required
  Additional Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of Enterprise Architecture concepts and frameworks including TOGAF and Zachman or similar TOGAF certification is a plus.
  • Knowledge of IT Infrastructure library (ITIL) principles and practices.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills as well as strong managerial and interpersonal skills.
  • Experienced influencing (ultimately to enforce) architecture disciplines and standards and persuasive in pushing forward new, standardized and innovative technologies and methods.
  • Pragmatic, with an ability to identify, prioritize and weigh different options and recommend constructive solutions; has a successful track record of maintaining a big-picture view while making progress in small steps.
  • Mid-level experience including advising, influencing and developing solution architectures in complex organizations with heterogeneous technology environments.
  • Ideal candidate will have experience developing application architectures and roadmaps based on business demand
  • Ability to identify and collaboratively select IT solutions to business problems.
  • Strong project management skills (Waterfall, Agile).
  • Familiarity with Architecture governance including chairing design authorities, setting and communicating IT standards, EA tools, and maintaining shared knowledge repositories etc.
  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to map business vision to strategy.
  • At least 5 years of banking or financial services experience preferred.
  • Master's degree preferred.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU? Compensation Starting base salary: $154,000 - $268,000 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This job is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
