GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of a superior or senior officer, performs skilled law enforcement and rescue-fire-fighting work as a member of an assigned shift at the Greater Baton Rouge Airport District. Work involves responsibility for the protection of life and property, prevention of crime, and the enforcement of federal, state and local laws and regulations as they apply to airport law enforcement and aircraft rescue-fire-fighting procedures. Employees of this class are required to learn and participate in the operation of apparatus and in the performance of hazardous tasks under emergency conditions such as heat, smoke and cramped and hazardous surroundings. A significant portion of time is spent in routine terminal and facilities patrol and inspection of aircraft rescue-fire-fighting property and equipment. Incumbent is on twenty-four hour call. Performs other work as requested.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, and must not be less than twenty-one (21) years of age.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS
(Unless otherwise specified below, must possess at the time of appointment and must be maintained current throughout employment in this classification.) Employees of this class are required to meet minimum physical standards as set forth by the Louisiana Council on Police Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.), and must successfully complete and pass a certified P.O.S.T. training program approved by the Louisiana Council, the Firefighter Basic Academy (Firefighter I, Firefighter II), and Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) training within one calendar year from the initial employment or employee will be terminated. Therefore the probationary period will end after the employee has completed six (6) months of employment and passed the P.O.S.T. examination and all physical/written examinations for Firefighter I, Firefighter II, and ARFF training.

OTHER JOB ASPECTS
For security reasons, as per TSA provision 1542; all applicant/employees of the Greater Baton Rouge Airport District who have access to restricted areas will be required to have a ten (10) year criminal background check to the extent allowable by the law. Employees found to have an excessive criminal record or other misrepresentations of employment will not be eligible for employment.

SELECTIVE CERTIFICATION
Firefighter I & II Certifications preferred. Police Officer Certification Training (POST) Certificate preferred. (Must provide current certification information on your application and attach a copy).

EXAMINATION
Protective Service examination required (may take up to 2 hours from test start time). Subject areas and other exam preparation information are available at: https://www.brla.gov/261/Examination-Preparation. Examinations are available on most Tuesdays, 8:30 – 9:00 am, check-in, Thursdays, *12:00 - 12:30 pm, and Fridays, 8:30 – 9:00 am check-in. Please call Human Resources Recruiting and Examination at 389-3132 to confirm testing dates and times. Test check-in is on a first come-first served basis.
