We are seeking a skilled communicator interested in organizational culture to support our communications team, which serves as a strategic partner supporting the Employee Services, Open City and Technology, Communications and Business Intelligence, and Workforce Safety, Security and Employee Health branches.

Our team helps translate complex operational, people, technological and business initiatives into clear, employee-centred communications that build understanding, trust and alignment across the organization. In your role, you will support the various internal channels and tactics by researching, developing and executing high-impact communication materials and events, like the City's annual Cultural Commitment Awards.

What will you do?

  • Develop and execute communications plans, including drafting content, developing creative assets, crafting social posts and updating print/web materials
  • Draft, proof, ensure approvals and distribute the City's internal employee newsletter
  • Advise on internal communication strategies and best practices
  • Provide research, liaison  and support for communications and event planning, including data collection and evaluation of events
  • Coordinate revisions and approvals for copy and messaging materials
  • Coordinate and facilitate messaging for media, issues, internal, and external communications
  • Develop, write, and coordinate content for digital platforms and tools
Qualifications

  • Graduation from a two (2) year college, accredited post secondary institute or technical institute program with coursework related to marketing, journalism, communications or public relations
  • Minimum two (2) years experience in a public relations, public affairs or public information position

Assets:

  • Experience with newsletter dissemination software or email marketing platforms
  • Experience with photo editing software
  • Experience working in the municipal government or the areas of internal communications, human resources, employee health and safety, or technology

Skills required for success:

  • A proven ability to deliver quality communication products, materials and advice on time
  • Working knowledge of communications, social media and design coordination, event planning and print production
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff at all levels and external program area teams
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and competing deadlines
  • An ability to gather technical information from program areas to translate into communications products
  • Flexible and adaptable to change whether from shifting organizational priorities or changes in technology or communication practices

Work Environment:

  • Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52.
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement, and the incumbent will be notified in advance
  • Availability to attend events during the evenings and weekends may be required from time to time.

Salary Range: $38.232 - $48.065 (Hourly); $67,355.23 - $84,678.51 (Annually)
