The City of Edmonton is looking for a dedicated Engineering Technologist II to join our newly formed Operational Safety section within Safety Engineering. In this role, you will be a key contributor to implementing critical safety actions, supporting parking reviews, and managing signage and pavement marking plans across the city. You will have the opportunity to blend technical field work, data analysis, and plan reviews to make a tangible impact on how people move through our community. What will you do?
- Review and assess technical applications for residential and commercial on-street parking, including accessible parking, and loading zones
- Prepare detailed parking sign plans, traffic control plans, and designs for permanent and temporary infrastructure
- Conduct field work and data collection to support project designs, ensuring accuracy in our mobility network signage
- Analyze field data to provide actionable recommendations for traffic safety improvements and speed limit adjustments
- Review and provide expert commentary on preliminary and detailed engineering design plans submitted by consultants and internal teams
- Draft concept plans and prepare graphics for public notices, reports, and events
- Research and recommend updates to traffic-related bylaws and internal technical guidelines based on industry best practices
- Respond to inquiries from the public, internal teams, and community members regarding traffic operations, signage, and safety concerns
- Completion of a two-year Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field
- A minimum of 5 years of related work experience
- Eligibility for membership in ASET (Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta) as a CET (Certified Engineering Technologist)
Assets:
- Previous experience in municipal traffic operations, parking management, or public-facing engineering support
- Familiarity with the Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) Highway Design Guide and Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil3D, Pictometry, POSSE/CRM, AUTOTURN, and SAP

- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks under tight deadlines
- Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
- Highly developed analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a demonstrated capacity to research and compile complex information
- Ability to work in a self-directed manner with minimal guidance and supervision
- Proven capacity to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community partners, collaborators, and internal teams
- Demonstrated experience in optimization and process improvement

Conditions of Employment:
- Ability to perform field work which includes walking and standing for extended periods in varying environmental conditions
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, such as safety footwear, head protection, and high-visibility gear
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
Work Environment:
This position involves a blend of indoor office work and outdoor field site visits. You will operate in a dynamic environment requiring occasional physical effort, including lifting up to 20 lbs and navigating various terrains during field surveys. The role involves mental focus to balance competing priorities and engage professionally with the public and internal collaborators.
