Description

Do you want to support City Council's understanding of the environment and climate related impacts of their decisions? Looking for an opportunity that helps advance the City of Edmonton's environment and climate change goals? If so, then this role is for you!

Join the Environment and Climate Resilience team, where you'll be a key advisor in shaping the City of Edmonton's environmental and climate objectives. We're looking for a professional to guide our work on a range of critical projects. You will prepare and present research considerations related to environmental assessments for air, water, soil, ecology, climate, and energy transition, all while developing the strategic plans that underpin our climate reviews. Your expertise will directly inform policy and guide the city's future.

Reporting to a Senior Environmental Project Manager on the Strategy and Planning Unit, the Environmental Project Advisor will apply their strong research and analytical skills to review programs, projects, and policies presented to City Council, assessing their environment and climate impacts. The work you do will enhance City decision-making and directly contribute to the commitments identified in the City's Environmental and Climate Resilience Policies, as well as the Community Energy Transition Strategy and the Climate Adaptation and Resilience Strategy. A key part of this role involves supporting comprehensive environmental and climate reviews of City projects and plans that are presented in reports to Council.

What will you do?

  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis that will support environment and climate reviews for reports submitted to Council and senior leadership, including summarizing relevant information from previous reports
  • Apply a broad understanding of various environmental considerations (such as climate resilience, air, water, soil, and ecology) to develop plans for these reviews
  • Engage with project teams and report writers across the organization, using a client-service approach to help them embed environmental protection and climate resilience into their work
  • Manage, maintain, and improve tracking systems for the Environment and Climate Review process, communicating with various departments to ensure conformance
  • Work with Senior Environmental Project Managers within the Strategy and Planning Unit to build capacity across the organization by developing and supporting training sessions for internal staff
  • Provide analytical and project coordination support for other section projects (as required), including research, information synthesis, and assisting with engagement events to foster collaboration
