Description
The Edmonton Exhibition Lands redevelopment is a major transformational project. The vision for the neighbourhood is captured in the Exhibition Lands Planning Framework which can be found at exhibitionlands.ca. This is a long-term redevelopment project and the Exhibition Lands Project Lead is the primary architect of a 30-year legacy. As the City of Edmonton's lead "development facilitator," you will champion the transformation of the Exhibition Lands into a sustainable, transit-oriented urban community.
In this role, you bridge the gap between long-term vision and immediate action—upholding the Planning Framework while navigating the complexities of multi-sector partnerships. You aren't just managing a project; you are orchestrating the catalytic infrastructure and land sales that will redefine North Edmonton for generations.
What will you do?
- Uphold the vision of the Exhibition Lands Planning Framework and the mandate of the Implementation Strategy, managing the evolution of the project in response to market conditions and Council priorities
- Provide clear direction on approaches in developing complex business and financial strategies within a broad framework
- Oversee the transition of City-owned lands from preparation (demolition and clearance) through to the selection of development partners and final sales
- Advise and provide recommendations to senior management on appropriate strategic and policy direction to guide decision-making relative to the Exhibition Lands project
- Act as the central point of contact for internal City departments to manage the day-to-day requirements on site, including interim use for festivals and property management
- Work collaboratively to ensure the timely delivery of catalytic "City Building Projects"
- Manage the Invitation for Offers to Purchase (IFOP) process in collaboration with the Property Transactions team to select qualified development partners
- Review development concepts for conformance with the Planning Framework to ensure the long-term vision is achieved
- Relevant undergraduate degree with applicable professional designation (CFA, P.Eng, AACI, P.App, APPI or equivalent). An advanced degree would be beneficial. Technical diploma with significant additional experience in a directly relevant role may also be considered.
- A minimum of 7 years progressively responsible experience in land development, land planning, real estate transactions, business planning, budget development and management, financial analysis, research, performance measurement, operations management or process development.
Skills required for success:
- Leadership, Management, and Facilitation
- Strategic and Financial Acumen
- Multi-disciplinary Technical Expertise
- Stakeholder and Partnership Management
- Communication and Public Relations
- Problem Solving and Adaptability
- Alignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies
- Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusion
- Applicants may be tested
