What will you do?
- Provide direct leadership, supervision, and mentorship to Lifeguards, Amenity Attendants, and Aquatic Servicepersons.
- Manage staff scheduling, recruitment, and professional development to ensure high-quality service and safety standards.
- Oversee the daily operations of the aquatic centre, including water quality testing, mechanical logs, and filtration systems.
- Lead facility safety management by planning emergency response training and ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) standards.
- Collaborate with the facility leadership team to monitor budgets, manage supplies, and coordinate preventative maintenance.
- Foster positive relationships with community partners, regulatory bodies like Alberta Health Services, and the general public to resolve inquiries and promote facility programs.
- Completion of a two-year post-secondary education in Recreation Administration, Facility Management, Business Management, or a related discipline
- A minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in recreation, facilities, or culture, including at least 2 years in a leadership role
Assets:
- Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard (NL) certification
- Government of Alberta workplace-approved Intermediate First Aid and CPR-C certification
- Possession of a Swimming Pool Operators Certificate, Level II (A.A.R.F.P.)
- Experience with municipal software applications such as Google Suite, Ariba, SAP, and DETS
- Familiarity with the CUPE Local 30 Collective Agreement
- Previous experience managing operational budgets and coordinating facility shutdowns
- Specialized training in Environmental Management or advanced Leadership Safety courses

Conditions of Employment:
- Hire is dependent on Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
- Candidates are required to hold a valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent) or higher. Candidates will be required to arrange their own transportation and, where appropriate, will be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require the candidate to obtain business-use auto insurance
- Possession of Intermediate First Aid, CPR-C and AED certifications
- Must maintain all required certifications (National Lifeguard, First Aid, etc.) according to organization standards
- Completion of relevant supervisory training approved by the City of Edmonton within one year of appointment
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring and use of SCBA as required
- Applicants may be tested
Work Environment:
- This position could operate in either an indoor or outdoor aquatic and recreation facility environment
- Exposure to humid conditions, variable noise levels, and pool chemicals
- The role involves physical activities such as standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs
- Mental stress may occur when responding to emergency situations or dealing with confrontational behavior
- This is a public-facing role and requires engagement and interaction with diverse people from various backgrounds with different needs, expectations and emotional states
