Are you a detail-oriented professional with a passion for transforming workspaces into functional, inspiring environments? The City of Edmonton is looking for a Furniture Coordinator to join our Workspace Planning team in the Infrastructure Planning and Design branch.
In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting the successful delivery of facility furniture projects that enhance our city's workspaces. You will work with business areas across the corporation to assess space needs and furniture requirements and collaborate with furniture vendors to plan and deliver workspace planning projects.
What will you do?
- Support Program and Project Managers in delivering facility projects on time, within scope, and on budget
- Support workspace planning with planning and coordination of needs assessments and furniture requirements for renewal and growth projects as well as day to day operational requests
- Developing space plans and furniture layouts using furniture planning principles ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards and ergonomics
- Assist with the preparation of project documentation, budget estimates, and technical specifications for furniture and materials
- Act as a site liaison between the project team, City business areas, consultants, and contractors to ensure work conforms to drawings and codes
- Maintain project and as built drawing records
- Perform other related duties as required
- A University Degree in Interior Design with a minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible project experience
- OR a Diploma in Interior Design with a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible project experience
Assets:
- Proficiency in using AutoCAD for space planning and interior design
- Direct experience in workspace planning
- Working knowledge of commercial furniture
- A valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent)
Skills required for success:
- Working knowledge of design standards including building codes, accessibility requirements and universal design principles as they relate to space planning and furniture planning principles
- Experience managing and working directly with external consultants and contractors
- Demonstrated experience understanding spaces including the ability to assess space needs and complete test-fit plans and propose furniture solutions to meet the needs of the business area, aligning with applicable codes and ensuring efficient use of space
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the capability to express complex ideas to a variety of collaborators
- Proven planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a focus on meeting project milestones with excellent attention to detail
- Confidence in developing strong, collaborative relationships with internal business areas and external vendors

Conditions of Employment:
- This is a safety-sensitive position
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety footwear, hard hats, and eye protection during site visits
- CRC - Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement

Work Environment:
- The role primarily operates in an indoor office environment, with occasional travel to various sites for inspections and meetings
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement, and the incumbent will be notified in advance
- This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
