Description

This is advanced, foreperson level work involving the supervision of Journeyperson level work being performed in the Refrigeration and A/C trade as well as the maintenance and repair of various HVAC systems. This position may also supervise other skilled tradespersons such as labourers and maintenance repair workers who execute preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown work requests.

You may perform repairs and/or operate mechanical systems. You will also be responsible for inspections, quality control, acquisition of materials, record keeping, preparing reports, scheduling work and workers, and coordinating with planners to load level work and schedule its execution.

This position relies heavily on strong written and oral communication skills within FMS and also outwardly with various client groups.

  • Provide direct supervision for up to 20 staff in various locations
  • Daily accountability for crew members attendance and working alone safety
  • Approve and ensure accuracy and timeliness for crew's time sheets
  • Manage and approve vacation for crew members and ensure CBA compliance and minimum coverage for business needs
  • Work with other forepersons to ensure after hour coverage for facility emergency coverage
  • Ensure staff maintain minimum requirements of training certifications including both provincial regulation and corporate requirements
  • Ensure crew meets requirements of corporate procurement guidelines including PO and credit card purchasing for materials (not Labour)
  • Provide leadership, mentoring and champion organizational and operational change
  • Work collaboratively with planners, forepersons, clerks and other branch team members to execute work and problem solve
  • Conduct safety inspections and accident/incident reporting and investigations
  • Supervision and responsibility for safe work in high risk machine rooms including Hydrofluorocarbons, Ammonia and new technologies including CO2, propane and other refrigerants
  • Responsible for ensuring that legislated requirements for environmental protection and reporting are followed for jobs and tasks under his/her direction
  • Responsible for assisting in the development and adherence to health and safety programs for staff working in the area. This includes monitoring the work practices of staff to ensure they conform to an acceptable level of safety, act to correct reported unsafe conditions, recommend and implement changes where necessary to prevent future occurrences
  • Ensure all legislated and City environmental and safety requirements are met by monitoring the work practices
  • Act to prevent/correct/report unsafe conditions; recommend and implement changes where necessary
  • Perform other related duties as required
