We are currently recruiting for Labourer I positions within the River Valley & Horticulture Section of the Community and Recreation Culture branch.

Your contribution will make a difference as you take on diverse responsibilities, including maintaining park amenities, supporting event bookings, and ensuring our parks remain clean and welcoming for all visitors.

What will you do?

  • Complete essential janitorial duties, ensuring the cleanliness and upkeep of various facilities and public spaces throughout the extensive River Valley park
  • Systematically collect and dispose of refuse and litter from designated park areas, popular trails, and recreational zones to maintain cleanliness
  • Skillfully operate and perform necessary minor maintenance on various park equipment, ensuring reliability and longevity for daily operations
  • Conduct thorough security checks on assigned premises, facilities, and equipment to ensure public safety and asset protection
  • Employ a variety of hand tools, including shovels, rakes, stake pounders, and other small implements, to efficiently perform manual labour tasks and grounds maintenance
  • Safely and efficiently load and unload materials, supplies, and equipment from trucks and vehicles
  • Professionally and courteously respond to public inquiries, providing accurate information and assistance regarding park amenities, rules, and events
  • Actively collaborate with and assist co-workers, and perform a variety of other related maintenance, operational, or administrative duties as required to support park objectives
Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 10
  • Experience or working knowledge of various tools/equipment including shovels, rakes, stake pounders, and small hand tools

Assets:

  • Janitorial experience
  • Experience collecting refuse in parks and trails
  • Previous customer service experience
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and AED Certificates

Skills required for success:

  • Ability to understand and perform oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work independently and perform manual labour for extended periods of time under various weather conditions and in a safe manner
  • Physical ability and manual dexterity to perform the assigned tasks and duties of the position, including repetitive lifting of up to 50 lbs

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
  • Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment is required

Successful candidates may be eligible for recall in the 2027 season

Up to 20 temporary full-time positions for up to 11 months

Note: Individuals unable to work the entire 2026 season may be considered for the Relief Labourer I position at a lower salary grade. Relief Labourers may work up to a maximum of 18 weeks in duration between April 15, 2026 and September 15, 2026.

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. Hours are subject to shift work, providing 7 days a week coverage between 5:00 am - 12:00 am. Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays is required.

Salary:

  • Labourer I: $24.416 - $33.470 (Hourly);
  • Relief Labourer I: $23.628 - $26.375 (Hourly)
