Description
The Assessment and Taxation branch is seeking a natural leader with an eye for detail who can oversee the Tax Exemptions team as they manage complex property tax exemption programs and legislation. Your excellent communication skills and dedication to providing excellent customer service will guide your success as you and your team navigate the complexities of implementing new and emerging legislation while maintaining a high standard of customer care.
In this politically sensitive role, you will be dealing with a wide variety of customers and stakeholders ranging from non-profit organizations to higher levels of government. Your research, reports and judgement will assist City Administration and council in their decision making.
What will you do:
Ensuring compliance with evolving legislation and regulations
Liaising with internal and external stakeholders including school boards, religious and charitable organizations and all levels of government
Preparing and presenting complex information in an understandable form to all stakeholders
Conducting surveys of other assessment and taxation jurisdictions to identify industry norms to guide decision making
Prepare reports for management and Council including research and recommendations
Review existing exemptions processes in an ongoing fashion and update as necessary
Supervising, coaching, mentoring, leading and training a team of professional level staff
Delegate work, provide ongoing performance feedback, and mentoring employee growth
Provide guidance to the team through technical expertise
Coordinate and support Tribunal appearances
