Description

Are you passionate about shaping how people move around our city? The Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) is looking for a collaborative and analytical Transit Planner II to join our Planning & Scheduling team. In this role, you will be part of a dedicated team of four planners responsible for designing, monitoring, and optimizing transit services that directly impact the daily lives of thousands of Edmontonians. By balancing data-driven insights with community needs, you will help deliver high-quality, cost-effective transit solutions that keep our city moving forward.

What will you do?

  • Analysis & Recommendations: Monitor, analyze, and assess ridership numbers, population data, and land use documents to provide strategic recommendations for cost-effective transit service delivery
  • Service Planning: Develop short-term plans to optimize routes, plan transit access for new neighborhoods, and design specialized service adjustments (such as seniors' routes)
  • Collaboration & Implementation: Work closely with internal operational teams, community partners, and external collaborators to implement service changes and resolve day-to-day operational issues
  • Budget & Reporting: Prepare detailed costing and budgetary documents to support Council inquiries, annual service plans, and long-term strategic goals
  • Community Engagement: Respond to transit-related inquiries from the public, Council, and corporate partners, and help create public engagement materials to share meaningful updates
Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline
  • A minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible planning experience within a transit or transportation context

Assets:

  • Professional membership (or eligibility for membership) with the Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI), the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), or an equivalent provincial body is considered a strong asset

Skills required for success:

  • Understanding of Transit Planning and the factors that contribute to a successful transit system
  • Proficiency with analyzing, displaying, and interpreting data (such as ridership data, trip data, etc.)
  • Strong computer skills. Planners work with a variety of general software (eg. Google application) and specialized tools (eg. Hastus)
  • Demonstrated technical judgment, and independent decision making
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to address inquiries from engagement participants, council members, and community partners with empathy and clarity
  • Proven conflict resolution, time management, and organizational skills to successfully navigate tight deadlines and competing operational demands

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent)

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week

Salary Range: $54.155 - $69.110 (Hourly) $95,407.570 - $121,754.540 (Annually)
