Job Description

The Coordinator, Prison Education works closely with prospective, current, and former students within CSN's Prison Education Program. The incumbent's primary responsibilities include providing necessary support to students who are eligible for participation in CSN's Prison Education Program, currently enrolled in the program, or have formerly been in the program now attending CSN post-release. These support services include but are not limited to:

  • Assistance with CSN student applications.

  • Student Advising Support

  • Coordination of FAFSA applications.

  • Referring students to various support services during and post-release.

  • Work cooperatively with NDOC staff to ensure efficient prison education operations.

The Coordinator, Prison Education reports to the Prison Education Program Manager. The incumbent must have a regular and consistent presence within the NDOC facilities working directly with students and support staff. The coordinator will also engage with CSN faculty teaching in the prison education program and other CSN staff as needed to support student success.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 3 years' experience in higher education teaching, advising, program coordination or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Previous experience working with incarcerated populations.

The ideal candidate should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • Proficiency in use of a personal computer and current software applications including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrate initiative, creativity, and problem-solving.

  • Current knowledge of ADA-AA, Section 504 of Rehab Act. Knowledge of FERPA rules, Federal Financial Aid Title IV regulations.

  • Ability to understand and apply NSHE and college policies and procedures, recognize and address challenges affecting college students, effectively apply case management practices, and follow-up appropriately.

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with a team of co-workers, CSN staff, NDOC staff, and other community support organization staff members.

Salary information:

Administrative Faculty C - The starting salary is $61,875.

This position if funded by grant dollars and is contingent upon ongoing and available funding through 6/01/2026.
