Description

The Department of Family Medicine is seeking a full-time Certified Primary Care Advanced Practice Clinician (NP or PA) to join a practice at our Primary Care Clinics. The APC, in consultation and collaboration with physicians and other members of the Clinical Care Team, provides comprehensive care to patients. The APC is expected to have the highest standards for clinical capability, professional education, quality improvement and overall patient care. The position requires a current Minnesota License, NP Furnishing Number (for NP's) and DEA Certification. The NP or PA will also work independently as outlined below and will participate in all aspects of patient care as indicated.

Essential Responsibilities

 

  1. Provide appropriate assessment of patient's health, ranging from focused to comprehensive.
  2. Obtain patient health history from patient or guardian and review pertinent health records. 
  3. Perform patient examination.
  4. Order pertinent diagnostic tests and procedures.
  5. Interprets health information and establishes diagnoses consistent with the accumulated data.
  6. Formulates treatment plan.
  7. Orders necessary medications and conservative therapies.
  8. Provide education and support to operative and non-operative patients.
  9. Make health record entries into electronic medical records and dictates according to standards.
  10. Work closely with physicians and nurses to provide comprehensive care.
  11. Assist the physician as needed during clinic and provide appropriate care to patients.
  12. Completes as necessary with related office work:
    1. Coding
    2. Patient form completion
    3. Correspondence
  13. Maintains current knowledge in the field of practice.
  14. Acts as a resource for nurse clinicians.
  15. Performs related work as assigned.
Special Skills and Aptitudes

Effective interpersonal relationship skills including good listening and communication skills. Able to build and maintain excellent working relationships with physicians and staff. Ability to adapt resources to meet the needs of the situation. Exercises good judgment; maintains flexibility, creativity and insight in problem solving. Adjusts to stressful situations with confidence and good judgment. Professional experience with exposure to clinic and surgery services. Well-developed assessment, interviewing and counseling skills. Knowledge of patient history and physical examination methods, HIPAA compliant. Ability to develop therapeutic relationships with patients, interpret medical data, identify normal and abnormal physical and radiology findings. Detail oriented, ability to multitask. Excellent communicator, positive attitude, hard working, confident in skills.



Qualifications

Position Qualifications
  • Education and Experience: Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program PA program
  • BC/BE through AANP or ANCC and also NCCPA.
  • Licensed or ability to obtain a NP license with prescriptive authority through the Minnesota Board of Nursing or PA license. 
  • Ability to obtain and/or maintain DEA certification for the State of Minnesota.
  • Meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges (if required).
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2-3 years of Nurse Practitioner / PA-C experience preferred.
